Սիրիահայ պարոն Սահակը Մեծ Եղեռնի վերապրողների սերնդից է, ում նախնիկները պատմական Մուշից են, Եղեռնից հետո գաղթել են Սիրիա և արմատներ ձգել այնտեղ: Սահակը Սիրիայում ծնված հայ ընտանիքի առաջին թոռն է: Ամբողջ կյանքում Հալեպում է ապրել, որն ամենամեծ հայկական գաղութներից է, որտեղ հայերն ունեցել են իրենց ինքնուրույն ազգային կյանքն ու մշակույթը:
 
Պատմությունը վերապատմելով՝ Սահակը հիշում է, որ այդ տարիներին նույնիսկ մահապատիժ էր սահմանված այն մուսուլմանների ու արաբների համար, որոնք կհամարձակվեին թաքցնել, պահել հայ ընտանիքներին, բայց, չնայած դրան, արաբները հյուրընկալել են իրենց, թե՛ կառավարությունը, թե՛ ժողովուրդը շատ բարյացակամ են վերաբերվել հայերին, ինչի շնորհիվ նրանք պահպանել են իրենց գոյությունը՝ ճակատի քրտինքով: Իսկ 20-25 տարի անց բարգավաճելով՝ Եղեռնից մազապուրծ հայերը լավ վիճակից նույնիսկ բարձր դիրքերի են հասել օտար երկրում: Դա պայմանավորված է նաև արաբների ճակատագրով, որ թեև իրենց հողում, բայց թուրքական տիրապետության տակ գտնվելով, բախտակից են եղել հայերին:
 
Սահակի խոսքով՝ քաղաքականության փոփոխությունը պայմանավորված էր արտաքին ազդակներով, և թեև փորձ է արվում Սիրիայի դեմ պատերազմին կրոնական դրդապատճառներ վերագրել, բայց իրականում դա կրոնի հետ որևէ կապ չունի, ոչ էլ քաղաքացիական է: Մեծ տերությունների քաղաքականության զոհ են դարձել սիրիահայերը , առաջին հերթին՝ Թուրքիայի: «Իսկ մենք ոտնակոխ եղանք, և մեր առաջին թշնամին Թուրքիան էր, և ամենամեծ փորձանքը նրանց համար՝ սուրիահայությունը, որովհետև սփյուռքում ամենաազգային կեցվածք ունեցողը Սուրիան էր և մոտ էր սահմանին, Հալեպից մոտավորպես 60 կիլոմետր է Թուրքիան: Դրա համար էդտեղ մեր լինելը շատ հաճելի չէր նրան»,- ասում է Սահակը:
 
Հալեպում սկզբում մեծ հայություն է եղել, բայց վերջին տասնամյակներին քաղաքական խառնակ պայմաններից ելնելով՝ հայերը գաղթել են աշխարհի տարբեր անկյուններ՝ Եվրոպա, Կանադա, Ամերիկա, Ավստրալիա և այլուր: Սահակի ընտանիքը ներգաղթել է Հայաստան, աստեղ է իրենց հոգու հայրենիքը: «Ես, որ ծնվեր եմ էդտեղ և մեծացեր եմ, ինձ համար միշտ էդտեղ օտար հող էր՝ հակառակ անոր, որ շատ հարգում էին մեզ, լավ կյանք ունեինք, բայց ես աշխարհը ման եմ եկեր ու որևէ մեկ տեղ ինձ իմ հողի վրա բան չեմ մը գտեր, միշտ օտար եմ զգացեր: Բայց էստեղ Հայաստանը իմ հայրենիքն է: Մենք ամբողջ կյանքերնիս՝ մանկությունից մինչև էսօր, ապրեր ենք Հայաստանով: Բոլորվին տարբեր ձևով մեր հայրենասիրությունը կդրսևորվի, բնականաբար, էստեղ ապրողների համար էդ հայրենասիրությունը դուք չեք կարող զգալ, որովհետև այնտեղ օտարության մեջ այլ՝ ներքին կարոտ ունեինք: Բայց հայրենասիրությունը շատ ուժեղ է մեր մեջ, և մեր առաջնահերթությունը՝ ծնողքի համար, երբ զավակը ծնվի, էդ զավկին հայրենի դաստիրակություն ճամփելն է»,- ասում է Սահակը, որն արդեն 5 տարի է՝ Հայաստանի քաղաքացի է, դեռ Սիրիայից էր քաղաքացիություն ստանալու դիմում ներկայացրել:
