Հարվարդի և Նյու Յորքի համալսարանների գիտնականները սկսել են երկարաժամկետ նախագծի իրագործում, որը ենթադրում է մարդու արհեստական գենոմի ստեղծում, որը սովորաբար իր մեջ պահում է ամբողջ ժառանգական տեղեկությունը: Սակայն որոշ գիտնականներ մտավախություն են հայտնում, որ դա հնարավորություն կտա լաբորատոր պայմաններում մարդ աճեցնել: Նախագծի մասնակիցները վստահեցնում են, որ այդպիսի ծրագրեր չունեն: Այս մասին հայտնում է Science ամսագիրը:

Նշվում է, որ հետազոտությանը կներգրավվի 25 մարդ: Ծրագրվում է ստանալ կենդանիների, բույսերի աշխատանքային գենոմ, նաև մշակել ԴՆԹ-ի ուղղման մեթոդներ: «Նախագծի նպատակն է քիմիական բաղադրիչներից սինթեզել ամբողջական գենոմներ, հետո դրանք տեղադրել կենդանի գործող բջիջներում»,-ասվում է փաստաթղթերում, որոնք վկայակոչում է պարբերականը:

Բացառված չէ նաև, որ կհաջողվի բարձրացնել կաթնասունների օրգանիզմի կայունությունը վիրուսների նկամամբ: Բայց որ ավելի կարևոր է՝ դա կբացի փոխպատվաստման համար անվնաս ցողունային բջիջների աճեցման ճանապարհ:

Միաժամանակ, նախագծի գլխավոր պայմաններից մեկը «էժան գենոմ» ստանալն է:

Նախագծի ֆինանսավորման գումարները ստացվել են ինչպես մասնավոր անձանցից, այնպես էլ դեղագործական ինդուստրիայից, ինչպես նաև այլ համալսարաններից: Նախագծի իրականացման ընդհանուր ծախսերը կարող են կազմել մինչև 3 մլրդ դոլար:
