Ձկնորսների համար լավ նորություն կա. նրանց կողմից ձուկ բռնելն օգտակար է: Նման եզրակացության են հանգել ավստրալական Մերդոկի համալսարանի գիտնականները: 

Այն վայրերում, որտեղ ձկնորսությունն արգելված է, շատ հաճախ ձկան գերավելցուկ է դիտարկվում, այդ թվում նաեւ` շնաձկների: Ձկնորսությունը հավասարակշռում է հաշվեկշիռը եւ խոչընդոտում է, օրինակ, այն բանին, որ ավելի մանր տեսակների ներկայացուցիչները հաճախ դառնան գիշատիչների զոհ, հայտնում է Planet- today-ը: 

Դա բնականաբար վերաբերում է ոչ թե այն ջրերին, որտեղ շնաձկներ են ապրում, այլ ցանկացածին, որտեղ գիշատիչները ապրում են խաղաղ ձկների հետ: Ինչպես որ գիշատիչների թիվը չպետք է շատ մեծանա, այնպես էլ այլ ձկան գերավելցուկ չպետք է լինի, հակառակ դեպքում էկոհամակարգի հաշվեկշիռը խախտվում է:   

Հետազոտության առաջին փուլը կայանում էր նրանում, որ հասկանային, թե ձկան ինչ քանակություն է գտնվում այնտեղ, որտեղ ձկնորսությունն արգելված է, այն վայրերի համեմատ, որտեղ դա կարելի է: Ձկան գերավելցուկ, բնականաբար, դիտարկվել է այնտեղ, որտեղ ձկնորսություն չի եղել: 

Իսկ երկրորդ փուլում պետք էր հասկանալ մարդկանց վերաբերմունքը, թե ինչու է անհրաժեշտ սահմանափակել գիշատիչ ձկների որսը: Մարդկանց մեծամասնությունը դրանում իմաստ չի տեսել, նույնիսկ հայտնել է, թե նման միջոցներն ընդամենը հանգեցնում են նրան, որ իրենք ստիպված են լինում փնտրել դրանց ձեռք բերման այլ` անօրինական ուղիներ: Այդ թվում` ձկնորսությունն այնտեղ, որտեղ կարիք չկա ազատվել գիշատիչների ավելցուկից, ինչը դարձյալ հաշվեկշռի խանգարման է հանգեցնում: 

Այժմ գիտնականները զբաղված են ոսկե միջինի փնտրտուքով, որը մի կողմից մարդկանց թույլ կտար ձկնորսությամբ զբաղվել, իսկ մյուս կողմից` չէր ոտնահարի նրանց հնարավորությունները: Նույնը վերաբերում է գիշատիչ ձկներին, մի կողմից դրանց թիվը չափազանց մեծ չպետք է լինի, մյուս կողմից` դրանց լիակատար անհետացումը կհանգեցնի այլ տեսակների ավելորդ աճի, ինչն արդյունքում սպառնում է նրանց վերացմամբ:
