Հիվանդությունը կարող է ավերել մեր կարիերան, կյանքը, ֆինանսական բարեկեցությունը: Որոշ բժշկական պատմություններ սարսափ ֆիլմերի հրաշալի սցենար կարող են դառնալ:
«Ծառ–մարդու» հիվանդություն
«Epidermodysplasia Verruciformis»՝ այս տարօրինակ հիվանդության ամբողջական անվանումն է: Սա մաշկի ժառանգական հիվանդություն է, որը զուգորդվում է ողջ մարմինը պատող գորտնուկներով: Հիվանդության դեպքերից առավել հայտնի է մեկը: Ինդոնեզացի Դեդե Կոսվարայի մարմինն այնքան էր այլանդակվել, որ նրա ոտքերն ու ձեռքերը նմանվել էին ծառի կեղևի և բույնի: Լիովին ապաքինվել հնարավոր չէ, սակայն հնարավոր է վերահսկել «կեղևի» աճը:
Ջրահարսի ախտանիշ
Ջրահարսի ախտանիշը առաջանում է դեռևս մոր արգանդում, երբ պտղի ոտքերը սերտաճում են՝ ստանալով «ջրահարսի պոչի» տեսք: Մոտավորապես յուրաքանչյուր 100.000-րդ նորածինը ծնվում է այս հիվանդությամբ, և շատերը երկար չեն ապրում: Մահացությունները պայմանավորված են միզապարկի և երիկամների բարդություններով, որոնք առաջանում են հիվանդության պատճառով: Երեխաներն առավելագույնս ապրում են մինչև 10 տարեկան:
Փղախտ
Փղախտը ինֆեկցիոն հիվանդություն է, որը հանգեցնում է վերջույթների և սեռական օրգանների արագ աճին: Հիվանդության տարածման պատճառը արյունախում մոծակներն են, որոնք տարածում են պարազիտային, ժապավենատիպ որդերին: Վերջիններս հանգեցնում են լիմֆատիկ համակարգի արգելափակման, որոնք առաջացնում են մարմնի հատվածների ուռուցքներ: Առողջապահության համաշխարհային կազմակերպությունը տեղեկացնում է, որ ներկա տվյալներով աշխարհում մոտ 120 մլն մարդ տառապում է այս հիվանդությամբ: Փղախտը չի բուժվում:
