Շախմատի դպրոցը կվերանվանեն ի պատիվ գրոսմայստեր Ռաֆայել Վահանյանի

«Երեւանի Շենգավիթի շախմատի մանկապատանեկան մարզադպրոցը» կանվանափոխեն գրոսմայստեր Ռաֆայել Վահանյանի անունով: Այն կկոչվի «Ռաֆայել Վահանյանի շախմատի մանկապատանեկան մարզադպրոց»: Այս նախագիծն ընդգրկվել է Երեւանի ավագանու՝ հունիսի 26-ին կայանալիք նիստում:
Ռաֆայել Վահանյանը համաշխարհային հռչակ ու ճանաչում վայելող շախմատիստ է, ով դարձել է շախմատի համաշխարհային օլիմպիադայի կրկնակի չեմպիոն եւ աշխարհի կրկնակի չեմպիոն թիմային հաշվարկում: 1970թ. վերջերից արդեն Ռաֆայել Վահանյանն իր վրա սեւեռեց շախմատի համաշխարհային հանրությանը, պարտադրեց խոսել իր բացառիկ կարողությունների մասին: Հատկանշական է Անատոլի Կարպովի տված գնահատականը. «Ռաֆայել Վահանյանի հետ միշտ դժվար է խաղալ, որովհետեւ անսպասելի վճիռների եւ յուրահատուկ իմպրովիզացիաների վարպետ է»:
Ֆիզիկայի ուսուցիչ Արտեմ Վահանյանի ընտանիքում ծնված Ռաֆայել Վահանյանը շախմատ սկսել է խաղալ հինգ տարեկանից, տասնվեց տարեկանում դարձել է դպրոցականների ԽՍՀՄ առաջնության չեմպիոն, իսկ 18 տարեկան հասակում Գրոնինգհեմում կայացած միջազգային պատանեկան մրցախաղում ճանաչվել է հաղթողներից մեկը: Առաջին հաջողություններից հետո սկիզբ է առել Վահանյանի հաղթարշավը համաշխարհային շախմատում, որը շարունակվել է մինչև 1990-ականների սկիզբը:
Շենգավիթի շախմատի մանկապատանեկան դպրոցը Ռաֆայել Վահանյանի անվամբ կոչելու վերաբերյալ միջնորդություններ են ներկայացվել Երեւանի ավագանու անդամ Հովհաննես Թոքմաջյանի, Երեւանի քաղաքապետի տեղակալ Արամ Սուքիասյանի եւ «Երեւանի Շենգավիթի շախմատի մանկապատանեկան մարզադպրոց» ՀՈԱԿ-ի կողմից։
