Հայերի ոչնչացման վերաբերյալ ես այլ բառ չգիտեի, բացի ցեղասպանությունից: Այս մասին հայտարարել է Հռոմի Ֆրանցիսկոս պապը Հայաստան կատարած ուղեւորությունից հետո` պատասխանելով լրագրողների հարցերին: «Արգենտինայում, երբ խոսում էին հայերի ոչնչացման մասին, միշտ օգտագործում էին ցեղասպանություն բառը, եւ Բուենոս Այրեսի մայր տաճարում մե նք խաչքար ենք տեղադրել ի հիշատակ հայերի ցեղասպանության: Ես չգիտեի այդ երեւույթը նկարագրող այլ բառ: Երբ ես եկա Հռոմ, լսեցի այլ բառակապակցություն՝ «մեծ չարիք» կամ «մեծ ողբերգություն», եւ ինձ ասում էին, որ «ցեղասպանություն» բառը վիրավորական է: Բայց ես միշտ էլ խոսել եմ երեք ցեղասպանությունների մասին, որոնք եղել են անցյալ դարում՝ Հայոց ցեղասպանությունը, ապա` Հիտլերի իրագործած ցեղասպանությունը եւ Ստալինի իրագործած ցեղասպանությունը»,- «Արմենպրես»-ի հաղորդմամբ` ասել է Հռոմի պապը:
Հունիսի 26-ին քահանայապետն ավարտել է եռօրյա այցը Հայաստան: Ավանդույթի համաձայն՝ Հռոմ վերադառնալու ճանապարհին Ֆրանցիսկոսն ինքնաթիռում պատասխանել է իրեն ուղեկցող լրագրողների հարցերին: Պապին ցեղասպանության վերաբերյալ հարց են տվել այն առնչությամբ, որ հունիսի 24-ին Հայաստանի նախագահի նստավայրում Հռոմի կաթոլիկ եկեղեցու ղեկավարը, շրջանցելով ծրագրված ելույթը, երկրորդ անգամ արտասանեց Ցեղասպանություն եզրույթը:
Նա ընդգծել է նաեւ, որ եւս մեկ ցեղասպանություն եղել է Աֆրիկայում, բայց 20-րդ դարում տեղի ունեցած «երկու մեծ պատերազմների ուղեծրում» հենց երեք ցեղասպանություն է եղել:
«Անցյալ տարի, երբ ես պատրաստվում էի Սուրբ Պետրոսի տաճարում անցկացվելիք հիշատակի միջոցառումներին, տեսա, որ Սուրբ Հովհաննես Պողոս Երկրորդն օգտագործել է այդ բառը, եւ ես այն կրկնեցի: Դա լավ չընդունվեց, Թուրքիայի կառավարությունը հայտարարություն արեց՝ իր դեսպանին հետ կանչելով Անկարա, որը վերադարձավ մի քանի ամիս անց»,- նշել է քահանայապետը:
«Իմ ելույթում այդ բառը չկար, բայց այն բանից հետո, երբ ես լսեցի Հայաստանի նախագահի ելույթի տոնը, իմ կողմից շատ տարօրինակ կհնչեր, եթե ես չասեի նույնը, ինչ եւ մեկ տարի առաջ»,- հավելել է Ֆրանցիսկոսը:
