 ՆԱՏՕ-ի հետ Հայաստանի համագործակցության ընդլայնումը կարող է ամրապնդել երկրի պաշտպանությունն ու անվտանգությունը:Այս մասին «Ամերիկայի ձայն»-ին ասել է Միացյալ Նահանգների նախկին դիվանագետ դեսպան Քենեթ Յալովիցը՝ մեկնաբանելով Լեհաստանում սկսվող Հյուսիսատլանտյան դաշինքի գագաթաժողովը. «Ողջունելի կլիներ, եթե Հայաստանը նույնպես քայլեր ձեռնարկեր այդ ուղ ղությամբ, քանի որ ՆԱՏՕ-ի հետ համագործակցության սերտացումը կնպաստեր արտաքին քաղաքականության ոլորտում մանևրելու ազատությանը»:

Յալովիցի խոսքով, Արեւմուտքում գիտակցում են, որ Երեւանն առավել սերտ կապեր է հաստատել Ռուսաստանի հետ. «Միանշանակ հասկանալի է, որ Հայաստանը բարդ երկընտրանքի առջեւ է, սակայն այդ քայլերն առավել կավելացնեին Հայաստանի անկախության աստիճանը, եւ դա հենց այն է, ինչ Միացյալ Նահանգները կցանկանար տեսնել»:

Բուն գագաթաժողովը կենտրոնացած է լինելու երկու հիմնախնդրի վրա: Դրանք են Մերձավոր Արեւելքում ահաբեկչության դեմ պայքարը եւ Ռուսաստանի կողմից հնարավոր վտանգների կանխարգելումը: Ռուսաստանի հետ հարաբերություններին է անդրադարձել դաշինքի գլխավոր քարտուղար Յենս Սթոլթենբերգը. «Մենք երբեք չենք ընդհատել Ռուսաստանի հետ քաղաքական երկխոսությունը: Մեր անդամ-պետությունների ներկայացուցիչները հանդիպում են Ռուսաստանի տարբեր ներկայացուցիչների հետ»:

Ինչ վերաբերում է Մերձավոր Արեւելքին, ապա այնտեղ ՆԱՏՕ-ի ներկայությունն այնքան զգալի չէ, առաջին հերթին՝ Մոսկվայի պատճառով: Այս մասին նշել է փորձագետ Դենիել Սերվերը: «ՆԱՏՕ-ն պաշտոնապես չի ներգրավվում Սիրիայում եւ Իրաքում գործողությունների մեջ, քանի որ այնտեղ մեզ անհրաժեշտ է Ռուսաստանի համագործակցությունը, որը չի լինի, եթե այնտեղ լինի դաշինքը»,-ասաց :

Վաշինգտոնում նաեւ չեն կիսում կարծիքը, թե Եվրամիությունից Բրիտանիայի դուրս գալը կարող է բացասաբար անդրադառնալ ՆԱՏՕ-ի վրա, նշում է ազդեցիկ սենատոր Բեն Քարդինը.

«Brexit-ն իրականություն է, որը չի փոխում հիմնական կարիքները: Եվրոպայում դա Ռուսաստանի վտանգին դիմակայումն է, Արեւելքում՝ ահաբեկչության դեմ պայքարը: Մենք պատրաստ ենք հակազդել այս երկու վտանգներին եւ դուք կտեսնեք միավորված մի դաշինք»:
