Միավորված ազգերի կազմակերպության գլխավոր քարտուղար Բան Կի-Մունը ուղերձ է հղել Բնակչության համաշխարհային օրվա առթիվ: Ինչպես տեղեկացրին ՄԱԿ-ի հայաստանյան գրասենյակից, ուղերձում ասվում է.
«Միջազգային հանրությունը հանձնառել է կայուն զարգացման նոր օրակարգ, որը հիմնված է արդարության և մարդու իրավունքների սկզբունքների վրա: Կայուն զարգացման նպատակների կենտրոնական խնդիրն է՝ չանտեսել ոչ ոքի:
Չնայած աղքատության նվազեցման և շատ մարդկանց բարեկեցության և հնարավորությունների խթանման ոլորտում գրանցված նշանակալի ձեռքբերումներին՝ հարյուր միլիոնավոր մարդիկ դեռևս սպասում են առավել լավ ապագա ունենալու իրենց հնարավորությանը: Զարգացմանն ուղղված նախորդ նախաձեռնություններից ամենաքիչ օգտվածների թվում են աղջիկները՝ հատկապես ձևավորվող դեռահասության շրջանում գտնվողները:
Այն ժամանակ, երբ աղջիկները պետք է գտնվեն դպրոցում և պատկերացնեն առջևում իրենց սպասող հնարավորությունները, նրանցից շատերը, հասարակական և մշակութային հանգամանքներից ելնելով, ստիպված են լինում անտեսել իրենց ձգտումները: Դեռահասության հետ տղաների ընտրություններն ու հնարավորություններն ընդարձակվում են, մինչդեռ աղջիկների մոտ դրանք շատ հաճախ սահմանափակվում են: Ամբողջ աշխարհում կատարվող սեռական բնույթի բռնի գործողությունների կեսն ուղղված է 15 տարեկան կամ ավելի փոքր աղջիկների դեմ: Զարգացող երկրներում ամեն երեք աղջիկներից մեկն ամուսնանում է դեռ 18 տարին չբոլորած: Ավելի քիչ է հավանական, որ դեռահաս աղջիկներն ընդունվեն և ավարտեն միջնակարգ դպրոցը, քան դեռահաս տղաները:
Այս անհավասարությունների շտկումը Կայուն զարգացման 2030 օրակարգի հաջողության հասնելու գրավականն է: Ահա թե ինչու է այն իր մեջ ներառում նաև գենդերային հավասարության և բոլոր կանանց ու աղջիկների հավասար հնարավորությունների հատուկ նպատակը: Բնակչության համաշխարհային օրվա առթիվ կոչ եմ անում բոլոր կառավարություններին, գործարար հատվածին և քաղաքացիական հասարակությանը աջակցել և օժանդակել դեռահաս աղջիկներին: Բոլորն են արժանի օգտվելու տնտեսական աճի և սոցիալական առաջընթացի առավելություններից: Եկեք աշխատենք միասին` անվտանգ, արժանապատիվ և հավասար հնարավորություններով լի կյանք ապահովելու համար»:
