Մեծ Բրիտանիայում սարքերի փորձարկմանը արդեն հավանություն են տվել և փորձարկվում են 50 մարդկանց վրա:
Այս բուժումը ուղղված է քնի ժամանակ շնչահեղձության դեմ, այսինքն, երբ կոկորդի և լեզի հյուսվածքները թուլանում են քնի ժամանակ, հետ ընկնում և փակում շնչուղիները:
Արդյունքում, քնած մարդը կարող է մի որոշ ժամանակ ուղղակի չշնչել, որն էլ կարող է շատ հաճախ գիշերն արթնանալու պատճառ դառնալ: Սա կարող է վատ ազդեցություն ունենալ հիշողության, ինչպես նաև ուշադրության վրա, և ավելացնել երկրորդ տեսակի շաքարախտ, ինչպես նաև սրտի կաթված ունենալու ռիսկերը:
Խռմփոցի ձայնը արտադրվում է հենց թուլացած հյուսվածքների տատանումներից, երբ օդը մեծ դժվարությամբ փորձում է անցնել այդ փակվող շնչուղիով:
Նորարական այս իմպլանտը երկու կողմից հանգույցով երկար ռետին է: Վերջինս ձգվում է և պահվում այդ դիրքում՝ հանգույցների միջև պլաստմասսե խողովակ հագցրած:
Ամեն հանգույց հատուկ ասեղանման սարքով հյուսվում է լեզվի տակի հյուսվածքի մեջ և այդպես մնում լեզվի տակ:
Մի քանի օրերի ընթացքում փափուկ հյուսվածքը աճում է այդ սարքի վրայից և օգնում, որ այն մնա լեզվի մեջ:
Քանի որ այդ հարմարանքը պատրաստված է ռետինից, այն ճկուն է և կարող է ձգվել և ցանկացած այլ շարժում կատարել: Մի քանի շաբաթ անց պլասմասսե խողովակը լուծվում է, իսկ ռետինը կծկվում է: Այդ ժամանակ բոլոր հանգույցները ձգում են այն հյուսվածքները, որին իրենք ամրացվել էին և արդյունքում լեզվի հյուսվածքը դառնում է ավելի ձիգ, ինչն էլ նշանակում է, որ ավելի քիչ հավանական է, որ լեզուն կկարողանա փակել կոկորդը:
Սարքի տեղադրումը շատ հեշտ է: Տեղադրումը տևում է ընդհամենը 15 րոպե:
Արդյունքները ցույց են տվել, որ 40 հիվանդների մոտ այդ ռետինը տեղադրելու ժամանակ ոչ մի խնդիր չի գրանցվել: Հիվանդների քունը հսկվում և հետազոտվում է լաբորատորիայում: Պրոֆեսոր Ջեյդիփ Ռեյն տեղեկացնում է, որ հետազոտության արդյունքները շատ ոգևորող են:
