Օլիվեր Պոուգը շարքային քաղաքացի էր. նա ամուսնացած էր և ուներ 2 երեխա։ Սակայն 2012 թվականից նրա կյանքը գլխիվայր շուռ եկավ։ Կոնքի ցավի պատճառով նա գնաց հիվանդանոց և բժիշկները պարզեցին որ ցավի պատճառը քաղցկեղն է։ Բժիշկները որոշեցին վիրահատական միջամտությանը դիմել՝ ուռուցքը հեռացնելու համար, սակայն 2 ագնամ անհաջող հեռացրեցին այն և կարիք եղավ 3 –րդ վիրահատությունն անցկացնել։
Այսքան վիրահատվելու արդյունքում վարակվեց Օլիվերի ողնաշարը և նա մինիգիտով հիվանդացավ։ Որոշ ժամանակ անց աշխատանքի ընթացքում նա կորցրեց բութ մատը, ինչը հետագայում վարակվեց ոսկեգույն ստաֆելակոկի մոդիֆիկացված վարակով, որը դիմադրում է բուժումների մեծամասնությանը։ Սակայն սա Օլիվերի դժբախտությունների ավատրը չէ։
Ողնաշարի հիվանդության բարդացման բատճառով նա պարալիզացվեց և այժմ գամված է անվասայլակին։ Իսկ վերջինիս կինը, այդ ընթացքում սիրավեպի մեջ էր մտել Օլիվերի ամենամոտ ընկերոջ հետ։ Իմանալով այս լուրը Օլիվերը շատ ծանր տարավ դա և սրտի կաթված ստացավ։ Նրա կինը բաժանվեց իրենց և ամուսնացավ վերջինիս լավագույն ընկերոջ հետ։
Օլիվերը կարողացավ հաղթահարել նույնիսկ սրտի կաթվածը և այժմ ապաքինվում է, սակայն ոչ ոք չի կարող պատկերացնել, թէ ինչ անհաջողություններ են սպասվում աշխարհի ամենաանհաջողակ մարդուն ապագայում։
