Թուրքիայի նախագահ Ռեջեփ Թայիփ Էրդողանի որդու` Բիլալ Էրդողանի դեմ հետաքննությունը, որը փողերի լվացման մեջ կասկածանքով վարում է իտալական Բոլոնիա քաղաքի դատախազությունը, կարող է բացասական ազդեցություն ունենալ երկու երկրների հարաբերությունների վրա:
Այս մասին Էրդողանը հայտարարել է ՙՌԱԻ-նյուզ-24՚ հեռուստաալիքին տված հարցազրույցում: 
«Բոլոնիայում որդուս նկատմամբ հետաքննության հետ պատմությունը կարող է բարդացնել Իտալիայի հետ մեր հարաբերությունները, որը պետք է ավելի շատ զբաղվի սեփական մաֆիայով»,- ասել է Էրդողանը:
2016 թվականի փետրվարին հայտնի էր դարձել, որ Բոլոնիայի դատախազությունը հետաքննություն է սկսել Բիլալ Էրդողանի նկատմամբ, որն իտալական այդ քաղաք էր եկել Ջոնս Հոփքինսի համալսարանում գիտական թեզ գրելու համար: Հետաքննություն սկսելու համար առիթ էր հանդիսացել թուրք ձեռնարկատեր, քաղաքական ընդդիմադիր, Ֆրանսիայում վտարանդիության մեջ բնակվող Մուրաթ Հաքան Հուզանի դիմումը:
Վերջինիս շահերը պաշտպանող փաստաբան Մասիմիլյանո Աննետի խոսքով` Էրդողանը Իտալիա է բերել խոշոր չափի հասնող կանխիկ փող, որը ստացել է ապօրինի գործունեությունից: Մասնավորապես, ԶԼՄ-ներում հրապարակումներ կային, որ Բիլալը եկամուտներ է ստանում նավթի ապօրինի վաճառքից, այդ թվում` ահաբեկիչների հետ առևտրից: Էրդողանի ընտանիքը մշտապես հերքել էր այդ մեղադրանքները: Այդուհանդերձ, մարտին հայտնի էր դարձել, որ Բիլալը ընտանիքով լքել է Իտալիան, սակայն, նրա դեմ բացված •ործը դեռևս առկա է:     
2013 թ-ի դեկտեմբերի 17-ին տեղի ունեցած «Մեծ կաշառք» հակակոռուպցիոն գործողության ընթացքում կաշառակերության, կոռուպցիայի, ոսկու մաքսանենգության, դրամաշորթության եւ ապօրինությունների մեղադրանքներով 3 նախարարների որդիների, մի շարք բարձրաստիճան պաշտոնյաների եւ •ործարարներ Ռեզա Զարրաբի, Ալի Աղաօղլուի հետ միասին ձերբակալվել էին 50-ից ավելի անձինք, որոնք կասկածվում էին Իրանի եւ Ադրբեջանի հետ էներգետիկ համագործակցության բնագավառում մոտ 200 մլրդ դոլար յուրացումների մասնակցության մեջ: Ռեզա Զարաբի հետ կոռուպցիոն կապեր ունենալու մեղադրանք էր առաջադրվել նաեւ Թուրքիայի կառավարության 4 նախարարների, այդ թվում` Եվրամիության հարցերով այն ժամանակվա նախարար Էգեմեն Բաղըշի նկատմամբ: Գործին ներքաշված լինելու մեջ մեղադրվում էր նաեւ Էրդողանի որդին` Բիլալ Էրդողանը:  
Էրդողանն ու իր գլխավորած իշխող «Արդարություն եւ զար•ացում» կուսակցությունն այդ ամենը կապեցին «Հիզմեթ Հարեքեթի» ազդեցիկ կրոնական կազմակերպության առաջնորդ  Ֆեթուլլահ Գյուլենի համայնքի հետ` պնդելով, թե այն Թուրքիայում դարձել է «զու•ահեռ պետություն» եւ վնասում է երկրին:
Էրդողանը Գյուլենին եւ նրա հետեւորդներին նաեւ մեղադրել է 2016 թվականի հուլիսի 15-ին մի խումբ խռովարարների կողմից Թուրքիայում ռազմական հեղաշրջման փորձ կազմակերպելու մեջ, որը մի քանի ժամ հետո ճնշվել է:
