Օգոստոսի 15-ին ՀՀ պաշտպանության նախարար Սեյրան Օհանյանն ընդունել է տարածաշրջանային այցով Հայաստան ժամանած ԱՄՆ-ի Կոնգրեսի Ներկայացուցիչների պալատի անդամ Սթիվ Շաբիթին: Հանդիպմանը մասնակցում էր նաեւ ՀՀ-ում ԱՄՆ արտակարգ եւ լիազոր դեսպան Ռիչարդ Միլզը:
Ողջունելով հյուրերին, ՀՀ պաշտպանության նախարարը բարձր է գնահատել ամերիկյան կողմի հետ պաշտպանության ոլորտում համագործակցության մակարդակը եւ նշել, որ այն հիմնականում կենտրոնացած է ՀՀ ԶՈՒ փոխգործակցելի կարողությունների զարգացմանն աջակցող կոնկրետ նախագծերի շուրջ: Հանդիպման ընթացքում կողմերն անդրադարձել են հայ-ամերիկյան պաշտպանական համագործակցության շրջանակներում իրականացվող հիմնական նախագծերին` խաղաղապահ փոխգործակցելի կարողությունների զարգացմանը, այս ուղղությամբ ՀՀ ստանձնած նոր պարտավորություններին, պրոֆեսիոնալ սերժանտական կազմի ձեւավորմանը, Պաշտպանության ռազմավարական վերանայման գործընթացին եւ երկուստեք հետաքրքրություն ներկայացնող այլ հարցերի:
ՀՀ-ում ԱՄՆ արտակարգ եւ լիազոր դեսպան Ռիչարդ Միլզը նշել է, որ կոնգրեսական Շաբիթի հանդիպումը ՀՀ զինված ուժերի ղեկավարության հետ կարեւոր էր՝ հաշվի առնելով Հայաստանի մեծացող դերակատարումը ՆԱՏՕ-ի եւ ՄԱԿ-ի խաղաղապահ գործողություններում: Դեսպանը հավելել է, որ հայ-ամերիկյան ամուր ռազմական հարաբերությունների մասին են փաստում օրերս Գավառի ու Հրազդանի հիվանդանոցներ Կանզասի ազգային գվարդիայի բուժանձնակազմի այցելությունը, ինչպես նաեւ հայ զինծառայողների վերջերս կատարած այցը Կանզաս նահանգ, եւ երկուստեք ցանկություն կա առավել խորացնել այդ կապերը: Ըստ դեսպանի` հենց այսպիսի գործընկերություններն են, ինչպիսին հայ-ամերիկյանն է, որ առանցքային են կայուն ազատության ու ապագա բարեկեցության համար:
Անդրադարձ է կատարվել նաեւ տարածաշրջանային անվտանգությանը եւ Լեռնային Ղարաբաղի հակամարտության կարգավորման գործընթացին: ՀՀ պաշտպանության նախարարը բարձր է գնահատել ԵԱՀԿ Մինսկի խմբի եւ համանախագահող երկրների դերակատարությունը ԼՂ հակամարտության բանակցային կարգավորման գործընթացում եւ նշել, որ հայկական կողմը չափազանց կարեւորում է Վիեննայում եւ Սանկտ Պետերբուրգում ձեռք բերված պայմանավորվածությունների իրականացումը` մշտադիտարկման ավելացման եւ հետաքննության մեխանիզմների ներդրումը, որը կանխարգելիչ դեր կունենա եւ պատասխանատվության շրջանակ կսահմանի:
