Արթուր Ալեքսանյանի հաղթանակից հետո շատ է խոսվում, որ նա Հայաստանի թվով երկրորդ օլիմպիական չեմպիոնն է։ Իսկ ո՞վ էր առաջինը։
Անկախ Հայաստանի առաջին օլիմպիական չեմպիոնը Արմեն Նազարյանն էր`հունահռոմեական ոճի ըմբշամարտիկ, Եվրոպայի վեցակի (1994, 1995, 1998, 1999, 2002, 2003), աշխարհի եռակի (2002, 2003, 2005), օլիմպիական կրկնակի (1996, 2000) չեմպիոն, սպորտի վաստակավոր վարպետ, ՖԻԼԱ-ի փառքի սրահի անդամ։
Նազարյանն համարվում է անկախ Հայաստանի առաջին օլիմպիական ոսկե մեդալակիրը, ով, 1996 թ. Ատլանտայի ամառային օլիմպիական խաղերում ներկայացնելով Հայաստանի Հանրապետությունը, հաղթում է ոսկե մեդալ` հունահռոմեական ըմբշամարտի տղամարդկանց մինչև 52 կգ քաշային կարգում։
Դրանից հետո Նազարյանը տեղափոխվում է Բուլղարիա և այնտեղ 1997 թ. ստանում քաղաքացիություն։ Բուլղարիայի դրոշի տակ հանդես գալով՝ Նազարյանը կարողանում է կրկին անգամ օլիմպիական ոսկե մեդալակիր դառնալ Սիդնեյի 2000 թ. օլիմպիական խաղերում։
Արմեն Նազարյանը ունի նաև մեկ օլիմպիական բրոնզե մեդալ (Աթենք, 2004)։
2015 թ. սեպտեմբերի 24-ին ՀՀ Նախագահի հրամանագրով պարգևատրվել է Երախտագիտության մեդալով։
Այսօր արդեն, 20 տարի անց Հայաստանն ունեցավ օլիմպիական նոր չեմպիոն:
Գյումրեցի ըմբիշ Արթուր Ալեքսանյանը դարձավ անկախ Հայաստանի պատմության երկրորդ օլիմպիական չեմպիոնը՝ կրկնելով Արմեն Նազարյանի հաջողությունը: Ռիո դե Ժանեյրոյում շարունակվող ամառային Օլիմպիական խաղերի հունահռոմեական ոճի ըմբշամարտի մրցաշարի 98 կգ քաշային կարգի եզրափակիչում աշխարհի կրկնակի չեմպիոնը 3:0 հաշվով վստահ հաղթանակ տարավ կուբացի Դանիել Յասմանի Կաբրերայի նկատմամբ:
