Շատ կանանց համար ընտրյալի տարիքը ոչ մի սկզբունքային նշանակություն չունի: Ամուսնությունները, որտեղ հարսնացուն փեսացուից երկու անգամ փոքր է այլևս զարմանք չեն առաջացնում:
Սակայն այդպիսի ամուսնությունները հազվադեպ են լինում դրական: Այդպիսի եզրակացության են եկել ամերիկյան հետազոտողները: Միևնույն ժամանակ` պարտադիր չէ ամուսնանալ հասակակցի հետ: Ըստ հետազոտողների, տարիքային տարբերությունը երաշխավորում է առավելագույն ամուր ամուսնություն:
ԱՄՆ-ի Էմորի համալսարանի գիտնականները պարզել են, որ, այնուամենայնիվ, տարիքային տարբերությունը դրական է ազդում ամուսնական հարաբերությունների և դրանց երկարակեցության վրա: Մասնագետները ասում են՝ որքան շատ է տարիքային տարբեությունը, այդքան մեծ է հավանականությունը, որ ամուսնությունը մշտական չի լինի: Քսանամյա աղջիկների և 60-ամյա տղամարդկանց մոտ տարբեր են հետաքրքրությունները և կյանքի առաջնահերթությունները, այդ պատճառով այդպիսի զույգերի մոտ հարաբերությունները ավարտվում են դեռ չսկսած:
Սակայն հետազոտողները պնդում են, որ փոքր տարբերությունը նույնպես կարող է բացասաբար ազդել հարաբերությունների վրա:
Այսպես, 5 տարվա տարբերություն ունեցող զույգերի բաժանման հնարավորությունը կազմում է 18%, 10 տարվա 39% իսկ 20՝ 95%:
Միաժամանակ գիտնականները պնդում են, որ ամենամուրը համարվում են այն ընտանիքները, որտեղ կանանց և ամուսինների տարիքը նույնն է, իսկ թույլատրելի տարբերությունը մեկ տարի:
Սակայն տարիքը բաժանման միակ պատճառը չէ: Տարբեր կրթական մակարդակներ ունեցող ամուսինները աստիճանաբար սկսում են կորցնել միմյանց հանդեպ հետաքրքրությունը: Բացի դրանից, մասնագետները պարզել են, որ ընտանեկան զույգերը, ովքեր ունեն ընդհանուր երեխաներ, 76% ավելի քիչ են բաժանվում:
