Հետազատությունը, որին մասնակցել են տասը հազարից ավելի կանայք և տղամարդիկ, ցույց է տվել, որ չափից դուրս երկար քնի հետևանքները կարող են ոչ պակաս վնասակար լինել, որքան պարպերաբար անքնությունը։
Համենայնդեպս, հենց այդպիսի օրինաչափություն է բացահայտվել 50-ից 64 տարիքային խմբի այն հարցվածների շրջանում, որոնց մոտ քունը տևել է վեց ժամից պակաս կամ ութից ավելի։ Երկու դեպքում էլ նվազել է ճիշտ որոշումներ կայացնելու կարողությունը։
Ինչ վերաբերում է տարիքային ավելի բարձր խմբին (65-ից մինչև 89 տարեկան մասնակիցներ), ապա նրանց ուղեղի աշխատանքի վրա ազդել է միայն չափից դուր երկարատև քունը։
Համապատասխան հետազոտություններն անցկացվել են Ուորվիկի համալսարանի մասնագետների կողմից, դոկտոր Միշել Միլերի և պրոֆեսոր Ֆրանչեսկո Կապուչոյի զեկավարությամբ։
Գիտնականները գտնում են, որ անհրաժեշտ է քնել առնվազն ութ ժամ։ Մասնագետների կարծիքով՝ ութժամյա քունը շատ լավ կանխարգելիչ է դիաբետի, ճարպակալման, ինչպես նաեւ ալկոհոլային հիվանդությունների ժամանակ: Նրանք, ովքեր բավարար և «որակյալ» քուն են ունենում, նրանց մաշկն ու մկանները լիարժեք հանգստանում են, արյան շրջանառությունը՝ լավանում:
