Հայկական սպորտի տարեգրությունը հարուստ է բազմաթիվ նշանակալի իրադարձություններով: 1938 թվականին ծանրորդ Սերգո Համբարձումյանը հաղթեց աշխարհի ամենաուժեղ մարդուն' գերմանացի Յոզեֆ Մանգերին, 1952 թվականին Հրանտ Շահինյանը դարձավ Հելսինկիի (Ֆինլանդիա) 15-րդ օլիմպիական խաղերի հայազգի առաջին չեմպիոնը, 1963 թվականին Տիգրան Պետրոսյանը նվաճեց շախմատի աշխարհի չեմպիոնի տիտղոսը, իսկ 1973 թվականին «Արարատ» ֆուտբոլային ակումբը հռչակվեց ԽՍՀՄ չեմպիոն և գավաթակիր: 1996 թվականին Ատլանտայի (ԱՄՆ) 26-րդ օլիմպիական խաղերում ըմբիշ Արմեն Նազարյանը դարձավ անկախ Հայաստանի առաջին օլիմպիական չեմպիոնը: Այս փառահեղ հաղթանակներին ավելացավ ևս մեկը' Ռիո դե Ժանեյրոյի (Բրազիլիա) 31-րդ օլիմպիական խաղերում Արթուր Ալեքսանյանը, Միհրան Հարությունյանը, Գոռ Մինասյանը և Սիմոն Մարտիրոսյանը նոր էջ բացեցին անկախ Հայաստանի օլիմպիական պատմության մեջ:

Հպարտություն ապրեցինք նաև հայազգի այն մարզիկների համար, ովքեր հանդես գալով այլ պետությունների օլիմպիական հավաքականների կազմում, նվաճեցին ոսկե, արծաթե և բրոնզե մեդալներ:
