Էլիզաբեթը Theranos դեղագործական ընկերության հիմնադիրն ու համասեփականատերն է: Նրա բիզնեսը գնահատվում է 9 միլիարդ դոլար, որից 4,6 միլիարդը պատկանում են անձնապես Էլիզաբեթին: Theranos-­ի գլխավոր աշխատանքն արյան անալիզի հիման վրա մարդու առողջության դիագնոստիկայի տեխնոլոգիան է: Այն շատ մատչելի է, արագ, անցավ ու տրամադրում է համապարփակ տեղեկատվություն մարդու առողջության մասին: Theranos­-ի նորարարությունը կայանում է նրանում, որ այս տեխնոլոգիան կիրառելու դեպքում արյան մեկ կաթիլը բավական է մոտ 30 տարբեր հետազոտություններ անցկացնելու և հսկայական բժշկական տեղեկատվություն ստանալու համար:

Տեխնոլոգիայի վրա Հոլմսն ու իր թիմակիցներն աշխատում էին շուրջ 10-ը տարի և խիստ գաղտնի էին պահում իրենց ուսումնասիրությունները: Դա էր պատճառը, որ երբ 2014-­ին տեխնոլոգիան ցնցեց աշխարհը, Էլիզաբեթ Հոլմսի մասին ոչ ոք դեռ չէր լսել:

Էլիզաբեթը ծնվել է 1984 թվականին փետրվարի 3­-ին Վաշինգտոն քաղաքում՝ փրկարարական ծառայության աշխատողի և Կոնգրեսում ծառայողի ընտանիքում: Փրկարար հոր աշխատանքի պատճառով Էլիզաբեթի մանկությունն անցել է Չինաստանում: Հենց այնտեղ նա սովորեց չինարեն, իսկ ԱՄՆ վերադառնալուց հետո ընդունվեց Սթենֆորդի համալսարանի քիմիական ֆակուլտետ:

Սակայն 19 տարեկանում Էլիզաբեթը հասկացավ, որ ուզում է թողնել համալսարանը և սեփական բիզնես հիմնել: Էլիզաբեթի ծնողները թույլ տվեցին աղջկան իր ուսման համար նախատեսած գումարը ներդնել ստարտափի մեջ: Չհաշված ընտանիքի կողմից այդ փոքր օգնությունը՝ Հոլմսն ամեն ինչ արեց ինքնուրույն: Վարձակալեց լաբորատորիա, սկսեց հետազոտություններ անել, փնտրել ներդրողների:

Քանի որ ստարտափի պոտենցիալը շատ ակնհայտ էր (արյան անալիզներ չափազանց հաճախ են հանձնում), ներդրողների պակաս չեղավ, սակայն խնդիրը նրանց որակն էր: Էլիզաբեթը գիտեր, որ իր ուսումնասիրությունները 1 տարուց շատ ավելի են տևելու, ուստի ստիպված էր հրաժարվել այն ներդրողներից, ովքեր արագ եկամուտ էին ակնկալում:

Ասում են՝ Էլիզաբեթի գրասենյակի պատին փակցված է Սթիվ Ջոբսի կենսագրությունը: Նա իսկապես նման է Սթիվ Ջոբսին, անգամ համեստ հագուստը՝ մուգ գույների մեջ և սև բլուզը, որը Ջոբսի զգեստապահարանի անփոխարինելի բաղադրիչն էր կազմում, նույնպես վկայում են այդ մասին: Բացի այդ, Էլիզաբեթ Հոլմսը, ինչպես և Սթիվ Ջոբսը, չի ավարտել բուհը:
