Նորմալ տղամարդու առաջին հատկանիշը՝ նա ստելու կարիք չունի: Ոչ այն մասին, որ երեկ երեկոյան ուշ ընկերների մոտից էր գալիս, ոչ իր աշխատավարձի, ոչ էլ ընտանեկան դրության մասին: Կանոնները շատ հասարակ են՝ հենց սկզբից ասելով ճշմարտությունը՝ նա ինքն իրեն ապահովագրում է ստի վերաբերյալ պարզաբանումներից:

Նորմալ տղամարդու երկրորդ նշանը սկանդալային մարդկանց հետ ապրելու ցանկություն չունենալն է: Լսելով իր հասցեին բղավոց՝ նորմալ տղամարդը նախևառաջ կլռեցի բղավողին: Երկրորդը՝ կհարցնի, թե ինչն է խնդիրը: Երրորդը՝ կլուծի այն (թե ինչպես՝ կախված է խնդրի տեսակից): Չորրորդ քայլ լինել չի էլ կարող հենց որովհետև նորմալ տղամարդու բերանը սկանդալներով փակել չի հաջողվի: 

Նորմալ տղամարդու երրորդ հատկանիշը սիրո նկատմամբ ձգտումն է: Նրանք ունակ են ընդունել սերը ու վերադարձնել բոլոր հնարավոր միջոցներով ու չեն վախենում զգացմունքներից: Եվ քանի որ ագահությունը նրանց բնորոշ չէ, իսկ վախերի հետ էլ նրանք սովոր են պայքարել, այդպիսի մարդկանց հաջողվում է մինչև խորը ծերություն պահպանել սիրելու ունակությունը: Իրենց կանանց նրանք սիրում են անձնուրաց ու միշտ շատ գործնական, այլ ոչ թե ցուցադրական՝ պաշպանելով փորձանքներից ու անտեղի չնեղացնելով:

Նորմալ տղամարդու չորրորդ նշանը՝ իր սխալները ընդունելու կարողությունն է: Նա իր արժանապատվությունից ցածր չի համարի ասել «ես հիմարություն եմ արել, կներես»: Նորմալ տղամարդու այս նույն հատկանիշի երկրորդ մասը սխալները շտկելու ու դրանք այլևս չկրկնելու կարողությունն է:

Նորմալ տղամարդու հինգերորդ նշանն է նվիրվածությունը երեխաներին (համենայն դեպս իր սեփական): Ոչ ամուսնալուծությունը, ոչ Երկրի ուղեծրի մոտով երկնաքարերի թռիչքները չեն կարող խանգարել նրան լավ հայր լինել:
