Հռոմի Ֆրանցիսկոս պապը մտադիր է այցելել երկրաշարժից տուժած Իտալիայի շրջաններ եւ «եղբայրաբար, հայրաբար գրկել իր քույրերին եւ եղբայրներին»: ԸստՏԱՍՍ-ի՝ այս մասին նա հայտարարել է Սուրբ Պետրոսի հրապարակում հավաքված հազարավոր ուխտավորների համար կիրակնօրյա քարոզի ընթացքում:

Քահանայապետը աղոթք է հղել առ Աստված՝ ի հիշատակ ավերիչ երկրաշարժի զոհերի: Նա շնորհակալություն է հայտնել բոլոր փրկարարներին, զինվորականներին եւ կամավորներին, որոնք օգնության են հասել տուժածներին:

6.0 մագնիտուդով ստորգետնյա ցնցումները գրանցվել են օգոստոսի 24-ի վաղ առավոտյան, որոնց հետեւել են 5.4 մագնիտուդով երկրորդ ցնցումն ու հզոր հետցնցումներ:

Վերջին տվյալներով՝ երկրաշարժի զոհ է դարձել 294 մարդ, 688 տուժած կա: Որոնողա-փրկարարական աշխատանքները շարունակվում են:
