Իրական պատմություն. 2 մարդակեր առյուծներ առնվազն 135 մարդ են սպանել

1898 թվականի մարտին բրիտանացիները սկսեցին երկաթուղային կամուրջի շինարարությունը Քենիայի Տսավո գետի վրա։ Նախագիծը առաջնորդում էր Ջոն Հենրի Պատտերսոնը։ Շինարարակն աշխատանքները առաջ 9 ամիսների ընթացքում 2 Տսավոյան առյուծներ հետևում էին աշխատողները իսկ գիշերները վրաններից գողանում մարդկանց և ուտում։ Շինարարները ամեն ինչ արեցին առյուծներին վախեցնելու համար. նրանք կրակներ վառեցին ճամբարի շրջակայքում, ցանկապատներ կառուցեցին, սուր փայտեր տնկեցին, սակայն այդ ամենը չկարողացավ կանգնեցնել մարդակեր առյուծներին։ Հարձակումները շարունակեցին, ինչի պատճառով շինարարների մեծ մասը լքեցին տարածաշրջանը՝ կանգնեցնելով գործընթացը։
Պատտերսոնը բազմիցս անգամ թակարդներ կառուցեց առյուծների համար և փորձեց ծառերի վրայից հետևել դրանց, սակայն ամեն անգամ նրա փորձերը ձախողվում էին։ Մի քանի տասնյակ փորձերից հետո Պատտերսոնը վերջապես կարողացավ որսալ առաջին առյուծին 1898 թվականի Դեկտեմբերին։ Դրանից 20 օր անց նրանց գտան և սպանեցին նաև երկրորդ առյուծին։
Առաջին առյուծը ուղղակի ահռելի էր, գերթե 3 մետր երկարությամ։ 8 տղամարդ էր պահանջվեր դրա դիակը ճամբար հասցնելու համար։ Դրանից հետո շինարարները վերադարձան և ավարտեցին կամուրջի շինարարությունը 1899 թվականին։ Հայտնի չէ թէ քանի հոգու են կերել այդ առյուծները, սակայն Պատտերսոնի ներկայացրած տվյալներով, նրանք կերել էին առնվազն 135 մարդ։
Որսի վերաբերյալ Պատտերսոնի գրառումներում ասվում է, որ առաջին առյուծին նա առաջին անգամ վիրավորել է ոտքից՝ մեծ տրամաչափի հրացանով։ Չնայած մեծ վերքին, կենդանին այնուամենայնիվ կարողացել է փախչել։ Ավելու ուշ առյուծը վերադարձել էր և փորձել որսալ Պատտերսոնին, սակայն վերջինիս հաջողվել էր ավելի մեծ տրամաչափի հրացանով ևս մեկ անգամ վիրավորել առյուծին։ Հաջորդ առավորտյան առյուծին գտել էին սատկած՝ ճամբարից մեկ կիլոմետր հեռավորության վրա։ Երկրորդ առյուծին վիրավորել են 9 անգամ՝ 3 տարբեր հրացաններից։
Առաջին անգամ երկրորդ առյուծին վիրավորել են 5 անգամ, սակայն դա բավական չէր առյուծին կանգնեցնելու համար։ Առյուծի և Պատտերսոնի երկրորդ հանդիպում տեղի ունեցավ 11 օր անց, երբ առյուծը փորձեց հարձակվել վերջինիս վրա՝ ճամբարի տարածքում։ Այդ ժամանակ Պատերսոնը ևս մեկ անգամ վիրավորեց առյուծին՝ այդ անգամ գնդակը դիպավ առյուծի գլխին։ Չնայած դրան Պատտերսոնը ստիպված եղավ հետևել առյուծին և ևս 3 գնդակով միայն կարողացավ սպանել դրան՝ վերջին վիրավորումից 2 օր անց։ Ինչպես գրել էր Պատտերսոնը, - «Առյուծը սատկեց մռնչալով, և վերջին ուժերով փորձում էր հասնել ինձ»։
Այդ երկու առյուծների մորթիները 25 տարի շարունակ Պատտերոսոնի տան խալիներին էին։ Սայահբ 1924 թվականին դրանք ձեռ բերեց Չիկագոյի թանգարաներից մեկը։ Այժմ մորթիները վերականգնված են և դրանց մեջ տեղադրված են առյուծների իսկական կմաղքները։ Թանգարանային այս նմուշը հավերժական ցուցադրման առտոնություն ունի։
