Մսից հրաժարվելը նիհարելու ամենաարդյունավետ միջոցն է

Բուսակերները կրկնակի արագ են ազատվում ավելորդ քաշից, քան մսակերները: Պարզվել է, որ ավելորդ քաշից ազատվելու ամենաարագ միջոցը մսային մթերքներից հրաժարվելն է, քանի որ վերջիններս մսակերների՝ մեկ օրվա ընթացքում ընդունած կալորիաների ավելի քան 1/3 մասն է կազմում: Դիետայի առաջին ամսում մսակերները նիհարում են ընդհամենը մեկ կիլոգրամով, մինչ բուսակերներն ազատվում են 2 կիլոգրամից: Տարբերությունն ավելի ակնհայտ է դառնում այն մարդկանց մոտ, ովքեր իրենց դիետայի հենց սկզբից են հրաժարվում մսից. այդ դեպքում նրանք առաջին մեկ ամսում ազատվում են մոտ 2.5 կգ ավելորդ քաշից:
Բացի այդ՝ բուսակերները, ովքեր կարողացել են հաղթահարել միս ուտելու գայթակղությունը, ավելի լավ սննդակարգ ունեն և հետևում են առողջ ապրելակերպի: Կրկնակի անգամ ավելի հավանական է, որ բուսակերները հաճախում են մարզասրահներ և ընդհանրապես ավելի շատ են ֆիզիկական վարժություններ կատարում:
Նաև ավելի հավանական է, որ նրանք գնումներ կատարելիս նախընտրությունը կտան ավելի քիչ յուղոտ մթերքներին և չեն օգտվի արագ սննդի կետերից. բուսակերների ընդհամենը 12%-ն է օգտվում արագ սննդի կետերից, իսկ մսակերների՝ 39%-ը:

Հավի գրիլը պարունակում է 135 կալորիա, սակայն արագ սննդի կետերում պատրաստվածները հասնում են մինչև 290 կալորիայի և բացի այդ հավելյալ կարտոֆիլ ֆրիով դրանք հասնում են 300 կալորիայի: Հենց այսպես էլ մենք փչացնում ենք մեր ողջ սննդակարգը:
Զարգացած աշխարհում Մեծ Բրիտանիան բուսակերությունը քարոզող երկրներում առաջին տեղում է, քանի որ բնակչության 12%-ը (7.752.000 մարդ) հրաժարվել է մսից:
Ավստրալիան ունի թվով ամենաքիչ բուսակերները՝ ընդհամենը բնակչության 2%-ը: Բուսակերությունը ամենաշատը տարածված է Հնդկաստանում, քանի որ բնակչության մոտ կեսը միս չի օգտագործում:
