Հիմա Բրիտանիան աշխարհի երկրորդ խոշորագույն սպառազինում արտահանողն է, այս մասին են վկայում պաշտոնական կառավարական տվյալները՝ ընդ որում այդ զենքի մեծ մասն աջակցում է Մերձավոր արեւելքում շարունակվող մահաբեր հակամարտություններին, գրում է Independent–ը:
2010-ից սկսած՝ Բրիտանիան նաեւ զենք է վաճառել Freedom House–ի «Ազատությունն աշխարհում» զեկույցում «անազատ» վարկանիշը ստացած 51 երկրներից 39-ին, ու մարդու իրավունքների ոտնահարման մասին հենց բրիտանական կառավարության սեփական ցանկում ընդգրկված 30 երկրներից 22—ին, ասվում է հոդվածում:
Մինչդեռ վիճակագրությունը, որը ստուգված է Մեծ Բրիտանիայի առեւտրի ու ներդրումների աջակցության դեպարտամենտի կողմից, ցույց է տալիս, որ Միացյալ Թագավորությունը ավելի շատ զենք է վաճառել, քան Ռուսաստանը, Չինաստանը կամ Ֆրանսիան են միջինը վաճառել վերջին 10 տարիներին: Միայն ԱՄՆ–ն է Մեծ Բրիտանիային գերազանցում այս ցուցանիշով, նշում է թերթը:
Զենքի առեւտրի դեմ պայքարող ակտիվիստ Էնդրյու Սմիթը նախազգուշացրել է, որ բրիտանացի արտահանողների կախումը կասկածելի վարչակարգերից կարող է նվազեցնել Մեծ Բրիտանիայի միջամտության հավանականությունը այն իրավիճակներին, երբ խախտվում են մարդու իրավունքները: «Այդ սարսափելի թվերը վկայում են բրիտանական արտաքին քաղաքականության հենց սրտում երեսպաշտության մասին: Կառավարությունը անընդհատ ասում է մեզ, որ գործում է մարդու իրավունքների ու ժողովրդավարության շահերից, բայց նա զինում ու աջակցում է աշխարհի ամենառեպրեսիվ վարչակարգերից մի քանիսին: Բրիտանական զենքի վաճառքի ազդեցությունը ակնհայտ է Եմենում, որտեղ բրիտանական կործանիչները ու ռումբերը գլխավոր դեր են կատարել Սաուդյան Արաբիայի հովանու ներքո իրականացված ավերածություններում»,- ասել է նա Independent–ին: «Այդ վարչակարգերը ոչ թե պարզապես զենք են գնում, այլեւ քաղաքական աջակցություն ու լեգիտիմություն: Որքանո՞վ է հավանական,որ Մեծ Բրիտանիան կգործի այդ երկրներում մարդու իրավունքների խախտումների դեմ, երբ նա նույնպես դրանցից օգուտ է ստանում» - հարցնում է Սմիթը:
Զինված հակամարտության գոտում գոյություն չունի նման հասկացություն, ինչպիսին է զենքի նկատմամբ հսկողությունը, ու հնարավորություն չկա իմանալու, թե ինչպես են օգտագործվելու այդ զենքերը: Այն փաստը, որ այդքան շատ զենք է վաճառվել Ռուսաստանին ո ւ Լիբիային, հիշեցնում է այն մասին, որ զենքի «պիտանելիության ժամկետը» հաճախ ավելի երկարակյաց է, քան կառավարություններն ու իրավիճակները, երբ այն վաճառվել է:
