Հնարավորությունները` քիչ, ժամանակը շատ: Միջնադարում մարդիկ ունեին զվարճանալու իրենց տարբերակները: Դինամիկ, կոպիտ, վտանգավոր, երբեմն նաև` մահացու: Այսպիսին էին միջնադարյան զվարճություններն ու խաղերը: Ներկայացնում ենք մի քանիսը:

  • Միջնադարյան ֆուտբոլը կարելի է համարել ռեգբիի նախատիպը: Թիմերի քանակի որևէ սահմանափակում չկար, չկային կանոններ, խաղում էին այնպես, ինչպես ցանկանում էին և ինչպես կարողանում էին: Արդյունքում խաղացողների կեսը մահանում էր դանակի հարվածներից: 15-րդ դարում Էդվարդ 4-րդ թագավորը արգելում է այս դաժան սպորտաձևը:
  • Որսորդությունը միջնադարում արիստոկրատ խավի սիրելի զբաղմունք էր: Լավագույն որսորդներին նույնիսկ պարգևատրում էին և պաշտոնը բարձրացնում: Քիչ չէին դեպքերը, երբ զենքից և ձիուց անտեղյակ սկսնակները պարզապես դառնում էին կենդանիների սնունդ: Ոչ բոլոր մարդիկ կարող էին իրենց թույլ տալ զբաղվել որսորդությամբ: Դա թուլատրվում էր միայն հարուստներին: Հակառակ դեպքում աղքատներին սպասվում էր չափազանց դաժան վախճան: Նրանց հագցնում էին կենդանու մորթի և բաց թողնում շների մեջ:
  • Տաք ապտակներ: Սա միջնադարում ամենամեծ տարածում գտած խաղն էր: Ապաշխարողը աչքերը կապած՝ գլուխը դնում էր խոստովանահոր ծնկներին: Նրան ապտակում էին, իսկ ինքը պետք է գուշակեր ապտակողին: Ճիշտ գուշակելու դեպքում տեղը զիջում էր ապտակողին և այսպես շարունակ: Այնպես որ կապույտ այտերը միջնադարում շատ տարածված էին:
  • Հին Հռոմի գլադիատորների պայքարը միջնադարում վերափոխվել էր ասպետների պայքարի: Հեծյալները գնում էին իրար ընդառաջ և փորձում խլել նիզակը մյուսի ձեռքից: Պայքարն ավարտվում էր նրանցից մեկի մահով: Հաղթողին էլ պարգևատրում էին մյուսի իրերով:
  • Միջնադարում շատ տարածված էր նաև հոկեյը: Այս խաղով, որպես կանոն, նշում էին Նոր տարին: Եղջյուրներից պատրաստում էին չմուշկներ և դուրս գալիս սառած գետի վրա: Այստեղ նույնպես կանոններ չկային և իհարկե՝ չէր հաջողվում առանց վնասվածքների խաղալ:
  • Մուրճի նետումը սկիզբ առավ Շոտլանդիայում, երբ թագավորն արգելեց մարդկանց զենք կրել: Շոտլանդացինններն էլ զենքը փոխարինեցին մուրճով, տղամարդկանց դեպքում`7 կգ, կանանաց դեպքում` 4 կգ: Խաղի սկզբունքը շատ պարզ էր` հաղթում էր նա, ով ավելի հեռու էր նետում մուրճը: Պարզապես մուրճերով զվարճանքն անցկացվում էր մարդաշատ շուկաներում:
  • Կենդանիներին դաժանությունների ենթարկելը միջնադարյան մարդուն շատ էր զվարճացնում: Նախապես արջերին և ցուլերին ինչ-որ բան էին ներարկում, հետո բաց թողնում հարթակ: Կենդանիների արյունոտ պայքարից մի լավ զվարճանալուց հետո, նրանց մորթում և ուտում էին:
