Գեղարոտ գետը դրա վրա գործող «Արագած-1» ՓՀԷԿ-ի պատճառով հայտնվել է աղետալի վիճակում: Այս մասին ահազանգում է Համահայկական բնապահպանական ճակատ (ՀԲՃ) քաղաքացիական նախաձեռնությունը, որը գետի վիճակը նկարագրող տեսանյութ է հրապարակել:

«Սակավաջուր ժամանակաշրջանում, իսկ դա մեր երկրում տեւում է մոտ ութ ամիս, գրեթե բոլոր ՓՀԷԿ-երի շահագործողները կիրառում են այս նույն եղանակն ու ոչնչացնում Հայաստանի գետերը՝ իրենց կենսաբազմազանության հետ միասին։ Այսպիսի փաստերը բազմաթիվ են, եւ վերջին հինգ տարիների ընթացքում ահազանգերի քանակը հասնում է մի քանի տասնյակի։ Սակայն բնապահպանության նախարարությունը, որի վրա են դրված վերահսկողական պարտավորություններն ու համապատասխան լուրջ միջոցառումների իրականացումը, ցավոք, խորհրդանշանական տուգանքներից այն կողմ չի անցել, չնայած նրան, որ նախարարի մակարդակով անընդհատ խոսվում է այս ոլորտը կարգավորելու, օրենսդրական դաշտը փոխելու եւ խախտումները նվազագույնի հասցնելու մասին։

Այսպես շարունակվելու դեպքում մենք ստիպված ենք լինելու միջոցներ ձեռնարկել բնական միջավայրին հասցվող նմանատիպ վնասներն ինքնուրույն վերականգնելու ուղղությամբ, որը ցավոք կոնկրետ այս ՓՀԷԿ-ի դեպքում հնարավոր չեղավ, քանի որ գետի բնական հուն հոսող ջրի քանակը կարգավորող պտտանիվը կողպեքով շղթայված էր։ Այլապես մենք ուղղակի կբարձրացնեինք փականն ու կվերականգնեինք բնական արդարությունը։ Այս նույն Գեղարոտ գետի աղետալի վիճակի մասին մենք ահազանգել էինք  դեռ երկու տարի առաջ, սակայն ինչպես տեսնում եք ինքներդ՝ ոչ մի բան էլ չի փոխվել»,- ասվում է ՀԲՃ հաղորդագրության մեջ:
