«Մարդ դատապարված է լինել ազատ»
Ժան Պոլ Սարտրի այս խոսքերը կարելի է տարբեր կերպ մեկնաբանել, և այդ մեկնաբանություններից մեկն էլ կապում է մարդու ազատությունը պետության ազատության հետ: Ահա թե ինչպես: Մարդ իրոք ազատ է, քանի որ, նախ, լինել ազատ նշանակում է լինել այն, ինչ դու կաս, դու ես (չլինել մեկ ուրիշը), իսկ մարդիկ ողջ կյանքի ընթացքում հենց դա են հաստատում՝ հաստատում են, որ իրենք իրենք են, այսինքն հաստատում են իրենց ազատությունը, հաստատում են, որ ազատ են:
Եվ երկրորդ, մարդիկ ազատ են, քանի որ կարող են մտածել, ասել և անել այն ամենն, ինչ կկամենան: Կարելի է նույնիսկ ասել, որ մարդիկ ծայրահեղ ազատ են:
Եվ այսպես, մարդիկ իրականում ազատ են, ինչպես դատապարտված են մահանալու և գիտակցելու դա, այնպես էլ դատապարտված են ընդունելու, որ ազատ են, իսկ քեզ ինչ-որ մեկ ուրիշ բան լինելու բոլոր պարտադրանքներն ու պատճառները հորինված են:
Երբ ասում են «ազատ, անկախ երկիր», խոսքը բնականաբար չի գնում թղթի վրա գոյություն ունեցող պետության, այլ՝ հենց այդ երկրում ապրող մարդկանց մասին, որովհետև բնակչությունը պետության պարտադիր հատկանիշներից մեկն է, առանց որի պետություն չկա, իսկ ազատության կրողն էլ հենց մարդիկ են, և միայն մարդիկ:
Մարդուց բացի, աշխարհում ազատ ոչինչ չկա:
