ԱՄՆ-ի նախագահ Բարաք Օբաման առաջարկել Է Հավանայում երկրի դիվանագիտական ներկայացուցչության աշխատակից Ջեֆրի Դիլաուրենտիսին նշանակել 55 տարվա ընթացքում Կուբայում առաջին դեսպան, տեղեկացնում Է «Արմենպրես»-ը՝ հղում անելով BBC-ին:
«Ջեֆի հանդես բերած առաջնորդությունը հսկայական նշանակություն ունեցավ Միացյալ Նահանգների եւ Կուբայի միջեւ հարաբերությունների նորմալացման ողջ գործընթացում, եւ դեսպանի նշանակումը ակներեւ քայլ Է երկու երկրների միջեւ բնականոն եւ ավելի արդյունավետ հարաբերությունների հաստատման ճանապարհին»,-ասված Է Սպիտակ տան կայքում հրապարակված հայտարարության մեջ:
Դիլաուրենտիսի նշանակմանը դեռ պետք Է հավանություն տրվի Կոնգրեսի կողմից, որը վերահսկում են հանրապետականները:
Կուբայի եւ ԱՄՆ-ի հարաբերություններն սկսել են լավանալ 2014 թվականի դեկտեմբերից: Այդ ժամանակ ԱՄՆ-ի նախագահ Բարաք Օբաման դիմեց Կոնգրեսին Կուբայի դեմ գործող բռնարգելքը չեղարկելու եւ նրա հետ հարաբերությունները վերականգնելու առաջարկով: Այդ ժամանակվանից երկրները դեսպանություններ են բացել եւ վերականգնել են առեւտրային ավիահաղորդակցությունը: Այս տարվա մարտին կայացել Է ԱՄՆ-ի նախագահի՝ վերջին 88 տարվա ընթացքում առաջին այցը Կուբա:
