Հանրապետական կուսակցությունից ԱՄՆ-ի նախագահի թեկնածու Դոնալդ Թրամփը հայտարարել Է, որ Գերմանիայի կանցլեր Անգելա Մերկելն իր ֆավորիտն Է քաղաքական ղեկավարների թվում: Այս մասին, ինչպես տեղեկացնում Է «Արմենպրես»-ը, հայտնել Է The Guardian թերթի Էլեկտրոնային տարբերակը:
«Ես կարծում եմ, որ Մերկելն իրոք աշխարհի մեծ ղեկավարներից Է»,- հայտարարել Է Թրամփը: Ընդսմին նա հավելել Է, որ «հիասթափված Էր միգրանտների նկատմամբ նրա գործողություններից»: «Ես կարծում եմ՝ նա ողբերգական սխալ կատարեց»,- հավելել Է Թրամփը:
Թրամփի հայտարարությունը հնչել Է այն բանից հաշված ժամեր անց, երբ իր ինքնաթիռում լրագրողների հետ կայացած զրույցում Գերմանիայի կանցլերի նկատմամբ իր հիացմունքն Է հայտնել Հիլարի Քլինթոնը: Նրա խոսքից մեջբերում Է անում գերմանական Stern հանդեսի Էլեկտրոնային տարբերակը: «Ինձ դուր են գալիս աշխարհի շատ ղեկավարներ, բայց նրանց թվում ֆավորիտն Անգելա Մերկելն Է, որն ամենածանր ժամանակներում իրեն դրսեւորեց որպես բացառիկ եւ ուժեղ քաղաքական գործիչ»,- ասել Է նա:
«Փախստականների հետ կապված ճգնաժամի ժամանակներում նրա ցուցաբերած արիությունը ոգեշնչել Է ինձ: Ես հուսով եմ, որ ինձ կհաջողվի աշխատել նրա հետ»,- հավելել Է Դեմոկրատական կուսակցությունից ԱՄՆ-ի նախագահի թեկնածուն, հաղորդել Է ՏԱՍՍ-ը:
