Նյու Յորքում բացվում է մի խանութ, որտեղ վաճառում էին ամուսիններ: Խանութը 5 հարկ ուներ. որքան բարձր էր հարկը, այնքան ավելի բարձր էին ամուսնու հատկանիշները: Խանութում կար երեք կանոն. 1. Երբ բարձրանում ես հաջորդ հարկ, նախորդ հարկ վերադառնալու իրավունք չունես 2. Եթե ընտրությունն արդեն արված է, ուրեմն այն փոխելու կամ հետ վերադարձնելու իրավունք չկա 3. Այս խանութ կարող են այցելել միայն մեկ անգամ կյանքում: Մի անգամ խանութ է գալիս մի կին ու առաջին հարկում տեսնում է մի վահանակ. «Այստեղ վաճառվում են տղամարդիկ, ովքեր գեղեցիկ են ու լավ են վաստակում»: Կնոջը շատ դուր եկավ սա, բայց բարձրացավ 2-րդ հարկ ու տեսավ այս վահանակը. «Այստեղ վաճառվում են տղամարդիկ, ովքեր գեղեցիկ են, լավ են վաստակում ու սիրում են երեխաներ»: Կինը մտածում է, որ սա շատ լավ տարբերակ է, բայց բարձրանում է 3-րդ հարկ և տեսնում այս վահանակը. «Այստեղ վաճառվում են տղամարդիկ, ովքեր գեղեցիկ են, լավ են վաստակում, սիրում են երեխաներ ու օգնում են տնային տնտեսության մեջ»: Կինը մտածում է, որ սա իդեալական տղամարդ է, բայց շարունակում է բարձրանալ, և 4-րդ հարկում այս վահանակն է լինում. «Այստեղ վաճառվում են տղամարդիկ, ովքեր գեղեցիկ են, լավ են վաստակում, սիրում են երեխաներ, օգնում են տնային տնտեսության մեջ ու շատ ռոմանտիկ են»: Կինը մտածում է, որ պետք է գնի այս տղամարդուն, բայց որոշում է գնալ 5-րդ հարկ ու տեսնում այս վահանակը. «Ներողություն ենք խնդրում, բայց այս հարկում տղամարդիկ չեն վաճառվում: Այս հարկը ստեղծված է նրա համար, որ ևս մեկ անգամ ապացուցվի, որ կանայք միշտ ավելիին են ձգտում: Դուք մեր 1,965,784-րդ հաճախորդն եք: Դեռևս ոչ մի կին այս խանութից գնումներով չի հեռացել:
