Հազարավոր ամերիկացիներ ստորագրահավաք են կազմակերպել՝ Սպիտակ տնից պահանջելով բոլորի աչքի առաջ կախաղան բարձրացնել 32-ամյա Բերջամին Թեյլորին, ով բռնաբարել ու սպանել է իր սիրուհու 10 ամսական դստերը:
Արևելյան Վիրջինիա նահանգի օրենքներով՝ հանցագործի մաքսիմալ պատժաչափը ցմահ բանտարկությունն է: Ու չնայած մահապատիժն այդ նահանգում 50 տարի առաջ է չեղարկվել, հասարակությունը կոչ է անում իշխանություններին այս դեպքի համար բացառություն անել:
«Բանտը շատ մեղմ պատիժ է նման հանցագործի համար»,- ասվում է ստորագարահավաքի տեքստի մեջ:
Հայտնի է, որ մահացած երեխայի մայրը՝ Ամանդա Լի Էդքինսը, ով ունի 4 երեխա, արթնացել է լուսադեմին՝ ժամը 5-ի սահմաններում և հայտնաբերել է իր փոքրիկին հատակին ընկած՝ մերկ ու արնաթաթախ: Երբ ոստիկանությունը ժամանել է, Ամանդան այդ պահին է նկատել միայն, որ բաղնիքում Թեյլորը լվացվում է, բայց միայն կոնքի հատվածում: Ինչպես հետո պարզվեց, նա երեխայի արյունն էր փորձում մաքրել:
Փոքրիկը դեպքից երեք օր անց մահացել է հիվանդանոցում, և հիմա քաղաքացիները հանցագործի համար արժանի պատիժ են պահանջում իշխանություններից:
Նշենք, որ չնայած Թեյլորը երեխաների հարազատ հայրը չի եղել, շատ լավ հարաբերությունների մեջ է եղել Ամանդայի և երեխաների հետ:
