«Սիրելի ընկերներ, ընդամենը ժամեր առաջ, երբ անձրևը դադարել էր՝ իր տեղը զիջելով սառն ու մառախլապատ գիշերացած օդին, ընկերոջս հետ Աբովյան փողոցով քայլելիս Մոսկվա կինոթատրոնի դիմաց հանդիպեցինք պատի տակ նստարանին կուչ եկած, սառած, Աստծու օրհասական օգնությանը կարոտ մի խեղճ ու կրակ, անտեր ընտանիքի:
Ամենասարսափելին այն էր, որից մարդ ուղղակի խելագարվել կարող է, որ փողոցում վերջերս հայտնված մուրացիկությամբ գոյություն քարշ տվող ընտանիքի կրտսեր զավակը՝ այն հրա՜շք, անու՜շ, արեգակ Մարիամը, 5 ամսական է: Պատկերացնու՞մ եք, 5 ամսական, այս ցուրտ եղանակին, դրսում, մանկասայլակի մեջ կամ մոր գրկին՝ մեկ է՝ մրսած ու կապտած, ինչպես նրա մեծերը, ներքնակը անձրևից ու ցրտից խոնավացած: Տեսարանը հալեպյան մարտադաշտից տուժած երեխայի էր հիշեցնում. և սա մեր քթի տակ: Փոքրիկ Մարիամի կողքին նրան մանկասայլակով օրորող մայրն էր, մանկատանը մեծացած, դեռ երեք տարեկանից համրացած մայրը, ով իր ավագ դստեր՝ 11 տարեկան Սյուզաննայի օգնությամբ փորձում էր պատասխանել մեր հարցերին: Երևան գրությամբ նույն նստարանի մյուս անկյունում ցրտից կուչ էր եկել երեխաների փոքրիկ եղբայրը՝ 8 տարեկան Գևորգը:
Նրանց հայրը վերջին խժդժությունների՝ Սարի թաղում բախումների ժամանակ ձերբակալվել և մինչ այժմ կալանավորված սպասում է իր դատին: Արդյունքում վարձով ապրող ընտանիքը, զրկված լինելով կերակրող, պաշտպանող ձեռքից, հայտնվել է փողոցում՝ անճար ու անօգնական վիճակում: Չմեռնելու, Մարիամին կերակրելու և գիշերները օրավարձով ծածկի տակ մնալու համար ստիպված մուրալով են զբաղվում: Ստիպված, որովհետև պատվարժան, նամուսով ընտանիքի տպավորություն կարելի է ստանալ միայն:
