2016թ. առաջին կիսամյակի ընթացքում Իրանում 200 մարդ մահապատժի է ենթարկվել

Այս մասին ասված է ՄԱԿ-ի գլխավոր քարտուղար Պան Գի Մունի հրապարակած զեկույցում: Ի դեպ, 2015թ. նույն ժամանակահատվածի համեմատ թիվը նվազել է: Իրանում 2015թ. սկզբից մահապատժի է ենթարկվել գրեթե 700 մարդ: Մահապատժի ենթարկվածների հստակ թիվը 6 ամսում կազմել է 694 մարդ: Գրեթե նույնքան մարդ մահապատժի է ենթարկվել 2014 թ-ի ընթացքում:
Իրանի քրեական օրենսգրքի համաձայն` մահապատիժն ամենախիստ պատժամիջոցն է։ Իրանում այն կիրառվում է շարիաթի օրենքների համաձայն, 1979թ. Իսլամական Հանրապետության ստեղծման պահից։ Մինչև 2008թ. փետրվարը Իրանում մահապատիժներն իրականացվում էին հրապարակայնորեն։ Հաշվի առնելով երկրի բնակչության բացասական վերաբերմունքը հրապարակային մահապատիժների նկատմամբ՝ դրանք արգելվեցին: Այժմ հրապարակային մահապատիժ կարող է իրականացվել միայն Իրանի պետական դատական իշխանության ղեկավարի որոշմամբ:
Իրանում մարդիկ կարող են մահապատժի դատապարտվել սպանության, զինված կողոպուտի, բռնաբարության, հերետիկոսության, թմրանյութերի վաճառքի, մարմնավաճառության, ամուսնական դավաճանության, պետական դավաճանության և լրտեսության համար: Մարդկանց մահապատժի ենթարկում են կախաղան հանելու, քարկոծելու, գնդակահարելու միջոցով։ Կախաղան հանելը Իրանում մահապատժի ամենատարածված ձևն է։ Իրականացվում է ճանապարհային կռունկի միջոցով, որը դատապարտվածին վեր է բարձրացնում։ Մահը վրա է հասնում ոչ թե անմիջապես, այլ որոշ ժամանակ անց: Գնդակահարությունը հազվադեպ է կիրառվում, իսկ քարկոծումը կիրառվում է հիմնականում այն անձանց նկատմամբ, ովքեր մեղադրվում են ամուսնական դավաճանության կամ սեռական այլասերվածության հետ կապված այլ հանցագործությունների մեջ: Պատժի իրականացումից առաջ դատապարտյալի ձեռքերը կապում են, ապա մինչև գոտկատեղը թաղում հողի մեջ։ Կանանց թաղում են մինչև պարանոցը։
