Մարդիկ իրենց տարբեր կերպ են պահում անխուսափելի մահից առաջ: Ինչ-որ մեկը կատակում է, ինչ-որ մեկը շտապում է արձակել վերջին հրամանը, իսկ ինչ-որ մեկն իրեն այնպես է պահում, կարծես ոչինչ տեղի չի ունենում:

Իբր 1934թ. արված լոխնեսյան հրեշի լուսանկարի հեղինակը՝ վիրաբույժ Քեննեթ Ուիլսոնը, մահից առաջ ենթադրաբար ասել է, «Բայց ես կարողացա չէ՞ ձեզ՝ բոլորիդ համոզել»:

Երբ հոսպիտալի միանձնուհին փորձում էր համոզել համր կինոյի հայտնի դերասանուհուն, ով մահանում էր, աղոթել, նա ասաց. «Չհամարձակվեք խնդրել Աստծուն օգնել ինձ»՝ ցանկանալով իր ուղին ինքնուրույն անցնել ու անցավ:

Գերմանա-հրեական ծագման գանգստեր Հոլանդացի Շուլցի մահից առաջ ասված խոսքերը գիտակցական հոսք են ներկայացնում:
«Նայեք մայրիկին: Իսկ քեզ ես ասում եմ, որ նրան չի կարելի ծեծել: Ոստիկանություն, տարեք ինձ այստեղից: Դատարանի հետ ես ինքս հարցերը կլուծմ: Դե, բացեք օճառով արկղը: Ընտրեք վիճակախաղի տոմսը: Ես պատրաստ եմ, ես ամբողջ կյանքս եմ պատրաստ: Դու ինձ լսո՞ւմ ես, թող ինձ մենակ թողնեն»:

Երբ բռնապետ իտալացի «դուչեին» մահապատժի էին ենթարկում, նա հստակ ու պարզ արտաբերեց՝ նայելով իր դահիճներին. «Կրակեք սրտիս»: Նրա մահից հետո մարմինն ի ցույց դրվեց, որպեսզի ապացուցեն, որ նա իսկապես մահացել է:
