Ամենատարածված սխալներից է օծանելիքը ցանելուց հետո տվյալ հատվածներն իրար շփելը։ Այդ մեթոդով պարզապես նպաստում եք դրա շուտ ցնդելուն։ Ճիշտ տարբերակն է օծանելիքը ցանել մաշկից 25−30 սմ հեռավորության վրա, որից հետո մի քանի հպում եւ վերջ։

Տարածված կարծիք կա, որ օծանելիքը չի կարելի ցանել վարսերին, քանի որ այն սպիրտ է պարունակում եւ չորացնում է վարսերը։ Իրականում օծանելիքից վնաս գրեթե չկա եւ վարսերը հոյակապ ձեւով երկար են պահպանում օծանելիքի բույրը։
