Աշխարհի շատ մշակույթներում ընդունված է մահացածներին հուղարկավորել հողում՝ նշելով հուղարկավորության վայրն ինչ-որ հուշարձանով, խաչով կամ ցուցատախտակով։ Սակայն Չինաստանի, Ինդոնեզիայի ու Ֆիլիպինների որոշ ազգությունների մոտ ընդունված է իրենց մահացածներին դագաղների մեջ դնել ու... կախել դրանք ժայռերից։

Նման կախովի դագաղներով հայտնի վայրերից մեկն էլ Ֆիլիպինների լեռնային Սագադա մունիցիպալ շրջանն է, որտեղ մինչ օրս էլ կիրառում են այս պրակտիկան։ Արձագանքի հարթավայրի բլուրներում գտնվող այս կապովի դագաղային այգիները պատվիրած են Իտորոգ ցեղի ավագանու, ինչպես նաև նրանց ընտանիքների անդամների համար, ու համարվում է, որ նոր սերունդները կարող են «լուսավորվել» միայն նման հաջող հուղարկավորություն կազմակերպելուց հետո։
 
Մահացածի հարազատները հաճախ դիակն իրենց ուսերի վրա են տանում դեպի հուղարկավորության ժայռը։ Նրանք համարում են, որ այդ կերպ ներծծում են մահացածի ֆլյուիդները և դրա հետ նաև՝ նրա տաղանդն ու հաջողությունը։ Համարվում է, որ մահացածներին դագաղը դնելուց առաջ պետք է նրանց հագցնել ընտանեկան գույներով ու նախշերով հագուստներ, որպեսզի նախնիները հեշտությամբ ճանաչեն նրանց այն աշխարհում։ Ավանդույթների համաձայն՝ մարմինը դագաղի մեջ տեղադրում են էմբրիոնի դիրքում, իսկ դագաղը պատրաստում են ծառի ամբողջական գերանից, ընդ որում՝ հաճախ դա անում է հենց այն մարդը, ով հետագայում պետք է իր հանգիստը գտնի դրանում։
 
Կախովի դագաղում թաղվելու առավելություն է համարվում այն, որ անցավորի մարմինն ավելի մոտ է գտնվում երկնքին, ու ավելի հեշտ կարող են հետևել իրենց ընտանիքին։ Սակայն ավելի պրակտիկ կարելի է համարել այն, որ օդում կախված դագաղները տեղ չեն զբաղեցնում հողի մեջ, որը պետք է, ասենք, գյուղատնտեսության համար։
 
Երբեմն դագաղի կողքին նաև աթոռ են կախում, որի վրա նստել է անցավորը մահանալուց ոչ շատ առաջ անցկացվող հատուկ ծիսակարգի ժամանակ։
 
Կախովի դագաղներն ու աթոռները, ինչպես նաև արձագանքը, որի պատվին էլ կոչվել է հարթավայրը, միանշանակ խիստ ինքնատիպ, միստիկ ու բավականին սարսափազդու մթնոլորտ են ձևավորում։
