Չնայած Զանզիբարում ծնված լինելուն, ոչ տիպիկ արտաքինին, Ֆրեդին կարողացավ նվաճել աշխարհը:
Իր նոր անունը Ֆարուխը ստացավ Անգլիա տեղափոխվելուց հետո, երբ դպրոց հաճախեց: Նրա անգլալեզու ընկերները դժվարանում էին արտաբերել նրա անունը ու սկսեցին ժամանակի ընթացքում նրան անվանել Ֆրեդի:
Մերկուրին շատ էր սիրում կատուների: Տարբեր տարիների նրա տանը ապրել է մի քանի կատու:
