Երեկվա առավոտը բացվեց ծանր եւ տխուր լուրերով. Մոսկվայից Երեւան ուղերթ կատարող «Higer» մակնիշի, 510 OP 61 պետհամարանիշով ավտոբուսը, որը պատկանում է հայկական «Քինգ դելյուքս» ընկերությանը, նոյեմբերի լույս 3-ի գիշերը, մեր ժամանակով ժամը 3:10-ի սահմաններում, Տուլայի մարզով անցնող Մ-4 «Դոն» մայրուղու 221-րդ կիլոմետրի վրա, Ուզլովոյե քաղաքից ոչ հեռու, դուրս է եկել երթեւեկելի մասից եւ կողաշրջվել:
Ռուսական լրատվամիջոցների տարածած, հետագայում նաեւ պաշտոնապես հաստատված տեղեկությունների համաձայն, ավտոբուսում եղել են մեքենայի երկու վարորդները եւ 59 ուղեւոր՝ մեծ մասամբ տղամարդիկ, բոլորը Հայաստանի քաղաքացիներ: 
Վթարի հետեւանքով ստացած վնասվածքներից ուղեւորներից 7-ը տեղում մահացել է: Եվս մեկ ուղեւոր մահացել է հիվանդանոցում: Հարկ է նկատել, որ մի քանի տասնյակ տուժած, տարբեր աստիճանի մարմնական վնասվածքներ ստացած ուղեւորներին հնարավորինս արագ տեղափոխել են վթարի վայրին մերձակա հիվանդանոցներ: Տուժածներից մի քանիսի վիճակը գնահատվում է ծանր եւ ծայրահեղ ծանր: 
Նկատենք, որ ուղեւորների մեծ մասն այդ ժամին, բնականաբար, քնած է եղել, ու ինչ-որ տեղ նաեւ դրանով է բացատրվում տուժածների մեծ թիվը: Գառնիկ Հարությունյան անունով վարորդը վթարից չի տուժել, սակայն մի որոշակի ժամանակահատված շոկային վիճակում է եղել եւ չի կարողացել որեւէ բացատրություն տալ կատարվածի վերաբերյալ: Ներկայումս նա ձերբակալված է։
Տուլայի մարզի ոստիկանությունը վթարի փաստով քրեական գործ է հարուցել ՌԴ քրեական օրենսգրքի 264 հոդվածի հատկանիշներով՝ ճանապարհային երթեւեկության եւ տրանսպորտային միջոցների շահագործման կանոնների խախտում, որը հանգեցրել է երկու եւ ավելի անձանց մահվան: 
Շրջանառվում էին լուրեր, որ վթարը տեղի է ունեցել վարորդի քնելու հետեւանքով: Սակայն ավելի ուշ այդ լուրերը հերքվեցին: Շոկային վիճակից դուրս եկած վարորդը ՈԴ իրավապահ մարմիններին ցուցմունք է տվել, որ վթարը տեղի է ունեցել մեքենայի ինչ-որ անսարքության պատճառով։
