Ելենա Ամիրխանյանը եւս մասնագիտությամբ բժիշկ է։
Նա ավարտել է Ամերիկյան համալսարանը, աշխատում է որպես առողջապահության ոլորտի կազմակերպիչ:
Նախարարն իր կնոջ հետ ծանոթացել է 1992-ին Երրորդ հիվանդանոցի բակում: «Հիվանդանոցներն անպակաս էին մեր առօրյայից: Շատ լավ եմ հիշում մեր առաջին հանդիպման օրը, որից հետո նրան հրավիրեցի «Արշակ Երկրորդ» օպերան դիտելու:
Սկսեցինք հանդիպել եւ շատ արագ որոշեցինք, որ ցանկանում ենք ընտանիք կազմել: Առաջին հանդիպումից երկու տարի անց ամուսնացանք: Դժվար տարիներ էին»,- պատմում է նախարարը:
Հարսանիքը տեղի է ունեցել 1994թ. ապրիլին։
Նախարարը խոստովանում է, որ կնոջ հետ տարբեր առողջապահական հարցերի շուրջ ունեն տարբեր կարծիքներ, որոնց քննարկումն երբեմն ավարտվում է բարձր անհամաձայնություններով, ինչին միջամտում են երեխաները։
«Առողջապահական ծրագրերի շուրջ մեր կարծիքները հաճախ տարաձայնության են վերածվում: Ուստի նախընտրում ենք չխոսել այդ թեմաների շուրջ»,- ասում է նա:
Ի դեպ, Ելենա Ամիրխանյանը 2006 թվականից զբաղեցնում էր առողջապահության նախարարի հասարակական հիմունքներով խորհրդականի պաշտոնը։
Արմեն Մուրադյանը պատմում է, որ նախարարի պաշտոնը ստանձնելուց հետո առաջին հրամանը կնոջը՝ նախարարի խորհրդականի պաշտոնից ազատելուն էր վերաբերում:
«Որպեսզի իրավիճակն ավելի չսրվի, որոշեցի նրան սեփական դիմումի համաձայն աշխատանքից ազատել»,- ժպտալով ասում է նախարարը։
Ելենա Ամիրխանյանն ամուսնուն պարգեւել է մեկ դուստր եւ երկու որդի:
