Զաքարիա Թուկերը սկսեց դպրոց գնալ, երբ բժիշկները նրա մոտ ախտորոշեցին աուտիզմի տարատեսակներից մեկը, որը բացատրում է 9-ամյա տղայի տարօրինակ վարքը։ Նրա աչքերի վիճակը գնալով վատթարանում էր։
Բացի հիվանդության սովորական ախտանիշներից՝ տղան խուճապի սարսափելի նոպաներ էր ունենում, որոնք գնալով սաստկանում էին։ Նա չէր կարողանում քնել, անդադար լալիս էր։ Ծնողների համար շատ բարդ էր հանգստացնել իրենց զավակին, քանի որ նոպաների ժամանակ նա ոչ մեկին մոտ չէր թողնում իրեն։
Արթուր և Սյուզի Թուկերները գրեթե ամեն ինչի պատրաստ էին հանուն իրենց երեխայի։ Ու մի օր տղայի մայրիկին հանդիպեց Քրիս Վոգտի անունը, երբ նա համացանցն էր տնտղում։ Այս կինոլոգը զբաղվում էր հատուկ աուտիզմով տառապող երեխաներին օգնող շներ վարժեցնելով։ Սակայն մեկ խնդիր կար։
Քրիս Վոգտը սպանության համար բանտարկված էր 1998 թվականից ի վեր։
Չնայած դրան՝ տղամարդը չէր դադարել իր աշխատանքով զբաղվել ու շարունակում էր վարժեցնել չորքոտանի կենդանիներին, որպեսզի նրանք օգնեն կարիքավորներին։
Սակայն մինչ այդ բախտորոշ օրը Քրիսը հնարավորություն չէր ունեցել գործնականում փորձարկել իր մշակած համակարգն աուտիստների համար։ Բանտում ավելի պահանջված էին կույրերի ու խուլերի համար վարժեցված շները։
9-ամյա Զաքի համար մարդասպանի հետ բանտում հանդիպելն իսկական մղձավանջ էր թվում, սակայն առաջին իսկ հանդիպումից հետո նա Քրիսի մոտ սկսեց հաճույքով գնալ, քանի որ միանգամից ընկերացել էր Քրիսի վարժեցրած շան հետ։
Կինոլոգը Քլայդ անունով շանը վարժեցրել էր այնպես, որ նա ակնթարթորեն արձագանքում էր՝ զգալով մոտալուտ խուճապի նոպաները Զաքի մոտ։ Զզգալով տղայի արագացած պուլսը՝ շունը միանգամից սկսում էր իր վրա շեղել տղայի ուշադրությունը՝ կանխելով նոպան։ Ու Զաքի վիճակն աստիճանաբար լավանում էր։
«Իմ խուճապի նոպաների հաճախականությունը նվազեց առնվազն 70 տոկոսով, ու հիմա շատ ավելի հանգիստ եմ և կարողանում եմ դպրոցում ընկերներ գտնել։ Ես ընկերներ վաղուց չեմ ունեցել»,–պատմում է տղան։ Որոշ ժամանակ անց Զաքի ողջ ընտանիքը եկավ բանտ, որպեսզի այցելի Քրիսին։ Այնտեղ նրանք բացառիկ բանի ականատես եղան. 9-ամյա տղան, ով վաղուց օտարացել էր ամեն ինչից ու բոլորից, ջերմությամբ ու սիրով գրկեց իր փրկչին՝ ուշադրություն չդարձնելով նրա քրեական անցյալին։
Տեսնելով, թե որքան է առաջադիմել Զաքը՝ Քրիսը չկարողացավ զսպել արցունքները։ Իր գործած հանցագործության մասին խոսելը նրա համար բարդ է առ այսօր՝ անգամ 17 տարի բանտում անցկացնելուց հետո։ Նա ընկերոջ հետ միասին վիճաբանել էր երրորդ անձի հետ, ու իրավիճակը դուրս էր եկել վերահսկողությունից։ Նա խոստովանում է, որ չափազանց վախկոտ էր այն ժամանակ՝ ճիշտ գործելու համար, բայց բանտարկյալը հավատում է, որ իր աշխատանքը կենդանիների հետ ու ցուցաբերած օգնությունը մարդկանց օգնում են անտեսել իր մեղքը։
Քլայդի հետ վարժությունները Զաքին նոր կյանք պարգևեցին, ու շունն անդադար կատարում էր իր պարտականությունները՝ գրեթե ազատելով տղային խուճապի նոպաներից։ Փոքրիկ Թուկերը վերջապես սկսեց հանգիստ քնել գիշերներն ու շփվել իր համադասարանցիների հետ։ Այսպիսով, աշակերտը, ով դեռ ոչ վաղ անցյալում անհույս էր թվում, կարողացավ ուսման անցնել դպրոցի ամենաուժեղ դասարանում, ու այս ամենը՝ շնորհիվ մարդասպանի…
Երբեք չգիտես, թե որտեղից կարող է գալ օգնությունը, և անգամ ամենաանհանդուրժելի արարքները կյանքը կարող է ստիպել ընդունել այլ կերպ։
