Մտավորական, գրող և անթրոպոլոգ Կարլոս Արանա Կաստանեդան գրքերի մի ամբողջ շարք է նվիրել շամանիզմին ու Արևմուտքում ապրող մարդու համար անսովոր աշխարհայացքը ներկայացնելուն։
Ոմանց համար նրա մտքերն իրենցից խոստովանություն են ներկայացնում, մյուսների համար դուռ դեպի նոր աշխարհ, իսկ երրորդները պարզապես հետաքրքրությամբ կարդում են նրա՝ իրենց համար նոր, անծանոթ աշխարհայացքը։
Ինքը՝ Կաստանեդան, իր ուսմունքի մասին խոսելիս օգտագործում էր «մոգություն» տերմինը, սակայն, ըստ նրա, այս հասկացությունն ամբողջությամբ չի ներկայացնում ուսմունքի բնույթը, որը հիմնված է նախնիների գիտելիքների վրա։
1. Անօգուտ է կյանքը ծախսել մեկ միակ ճանապարհի վրա, հատկապես, եթե այս ճանապարհը քո սրտով չէ։
2. Շատ բան մի՛ բացատրիր։ Յուրաքանչյուր բացատրության մեջ ներողության հայցում է թաքնված։ Այնպես որ, երբ դու բացատրում ես, թե ինչու դու չես կարող անել այս կամ այն բանը, իրականում դու ներողություն ես հայցում քո թերությունների համար՝ հույս ունենալով, որ քեզ լսողները բարի կգտնվեն ու կներեն դրանք։
3. Կյանքից առավելագույնը քաղելու համար մարդը պետք է կարողանա փոխվել։ Ցավոք, մարդը չափազանց դժվարությամբ է փոխվում, և այդ փոփոխությունները չափազանց դանդաղ են տեղի ունենում։ Շատերը դրա վրա տարիներ են ծախսում։ Ամենադժվարն իսկապես փոխվել ցանկանալն է։
4. Ես երբեք ոչ ոքի վրա չեմ բարկանում։ Ոչ ոք չի կարող մի այնպիսի բան անել, որը կարող է արժանանալ իմ այդպիսի արձագանքին։ Մարդկանց վրա բարկանում ես, երբ զգում ես, որ նրանց արարքը կարևոր է։ Ես երկար ժամանակ է՝ նման բան չեմ զգացել։
5. Դու պետք է միշտ հիշես, որ ճանապարհը պարզապես ճանապարհ է։ Եթե դու զգում ես, որ չպետք է քայլեիր այդ ճանապարհով, ուրեմն ոչ մի դեպքում չպետք է շարունակես քայլել դրանով։
6. Մյուսների իրականությունը հասկանալու համար նախ անհրաժեշտ է ազատվել սեփական իրականությունից, սակայն մարդու համար ամենևին էլ հեշտ չէ ազատվել աշխարհի՝ սովորություն դարձած պատկերից. այս սովորությունն անհրաժեշտ է կոտրել ուժով։
7. Վարվիր այնպես, ասես սա երազ է։ Քաջությամբ գործիր ու արդարացում մի՛ փնտրիր։
8. Մարդկանց մեծամասնության գլխավոր խոչընդոտը ներքին երկխոսությունն է, որն ամեն ինչի բանալին է։ Երբ մարդը կսովորի կանգնեցնել այն, ամեն ինչ հնարավոր կդառնա։ Ամենաանհավանական նախագծերն իրագործելի կդառնան։
9. Մարդիկ չեն գիտակցում, որ յուրաքանչյուր պահի կարող են իրենց կյանքից դուրս շպրտել ցանկացած բան, յուրաքանչյուր պահի, ակնթարթորեն։
10. Միակ ամենաիմաստուն խորհրդատուն, որ մենք ունենք, մահն է։ Ամեն անգամ, երբ զգում ես, թե որքան հաճախ է կյանքում ամեն ինչ վատ դասավորվում, և դու գտնվում ես կործանման եզրին, շրջվիր դեպի մահդ ու հարցրու՝ արդյո՞ք դա այդպես է։ Եվ քո մահը կպատասխանի, որ դու սխալվում ես, և որ բացի նրա հպումից՝ ուրիշ ոչինչ իմաստ չունի։ Քո մահը կասի. «Բայց չէ՞ որ ես քեզ դեռ չեմ հպվել»։
11. Յուրաքանչյուրն ընթանում է իր ճանապարհով, սակայն բոլոր ճանապարհները, միևնույն է, տանում են դեպի անհայտություն։ Նշանակում է՝ ճանապարհի ողջ իմաստը կայանում է նրանում, թե ինչպես ես քայլում այդ ճանապարհը... Եթե քայլում ես հաճույքով, ուրեմն դա քո ճանապարհն է։ Եթե քեզ վատ ես զգում, յուրաքանչյուր պահի կարող ես փոխել այն՝ անկախ նրանից, թե որքան երկար ես ընթացել դրանով։ Եվ դա ճիշտ կլինի։
12. Մեր միջի ապուշությունը հաղթահարելու համար մեզ անհրաժեշտ կլինի մեր ողջ ժամանակն ու ողջ էներգիան։ Հենց սա է, որ կարևոր է, մնացածն էական չէ...
13. Կարևորն այն է, թե ինչի վրա ենք կենտրոնանում... Մեզնից յուրաքանչյուրն ինքն է իրեն կամ դժբախտ, կամ ուժեղ դարձնում։ Թե՛ առաջինի, թե՛ երկրորդի դեպքում տարվող աշխատանքի ծավալը նույնն է։
14. Մարտիկի արվեստը կայանում է մարդ լինելու սարսափի և մարդ լինելու հրաշքի միջև հավասարակշռությունը պահպանելու մեջ։
15. Իմաստուն մարդ դառնալու համար անհրաժեշտ է մարտիկ լինել և ոչ թե նվնվացող երեխա։ Պայքարել, չհանձնվել, չբողոքել, չընկրկել, պայքարել, մինչև որ տեսնես։ Եվ այս ամենը նրա համար, որպեսզի հասկանաս, որ աշխարհում չկա մի այնպիսի բան, որը նշանակություն կունենա։
16. Եթե քեզ դուր չի գալիս այն, ինչ ստանում ես, փոխիր այն, ինչ տալիս ես։
