Նյու-Ջերսիում իտալացի մի տղամարդ էր ապրում: Երբ գարունը բացվեց, նա ցանկացավ լոլիկ աճեցնի, ինչպես մյուս տարիների ընթացքում էր արել, բայց այս անգամ նա արդեն դժվարանում էր աշխատել, և հողատարածքն էլ փոքր չէր: Իսկ նրա միակ տղան՝ Վինսենտը, բանտում էր:
Հայրը որոշեց նամակ գրել տղային և կիսվել նրա հետ իր խնդիրներով:
«Թանկագին Վինսենտ, ես շատ տխուր եմ, քանի որ այս տարի ի վիճակի չեմ լինի լոլիկ աճեցնել մեր հողամասում: Ես արդեն շատ ծեր եմ հողը փորելու համար: Ես գիտեմ, եթե դու ինձ հետ լինեիր, ամեն խնդիր կլուծվեր: Ես հաճախ հիշում եմ հին և բարի ժամանակների մասին: Սիրում եմ քեզ: Քո հայրիկ»:
Անցավ մի քանի օր, և ծերուկը նամակ ստացավ որդուց:
«Թանկագին հայրիկ, մի փորիր այդ հողամասը: Քանի որ հենց այդտեղ են թաղված մարմինները: Գրկում եմ: Քո որդի՝ Վիննի»:
Հաջորդ օրն առավոտյան 4-ին, եկան ոստիկանության աշխատակիցները: Նրանք փորեցին ամբողջ հողամասը՝ թաղված մարմինները գտնելու նպատակով: Բայց ոչինչ չգտան, և ներողություն խնդրելով ծերունուց, հեռացան: Եվ հենց այդ օրը իտալացին ևս մեկ նամակ ստացավ որդուց:
«Սիրելի հայրիկ, այժմ դու կարող ես տնկել լոլիկները: Սա այն ամենն էր, ինչ կարող էի անել քեզ համար: Համբուրում եմ: Վիննի»:
