Սարսափը եկավ առանց զգուշացնելու և տևեց ընդամենը ժամեր: Երբ ավարտվեց, 640 մարդ էր մահացել և Ֆրանսիայի փոքրիկ գյուղը կրակի բոցերի մեջ էր: Սովորական շաբաթ օր էր Oradour-sur-Glane գյուղում, երբ 1944թ. հունիսի 10-ին գյուղին մոտեցան գերմանական երկրորդ դիվիզիայի զինվորները: Օրեր առաջ դաշնակիցների զորքերը ափ էին իջել Նորմանդիայի ափերին զանգվածային ներխուժման նպատակով: Դա Երկրորդ համաշխարհային պատերազմում շրջադարձային էր:

Դեռևս անհայտ պատճառներով ավելի քան 70 տարի առաջ զինվորները շրջապատեցին գյուղը, կանանց ու երեխաներին տարան եկեղեցի, իսկ տղամարդկանց ուժով գցեցին ավտոտնակներն ու ախոռները: Տղամարդկանց գնդակահարեցին, կանայք ու երեխաները շնչահեղձ եղան կամ այրվեցին, երբ եկեղեցին կրակի տրվեց:

Ընդհանուր՝ 642 մարդ մահացավ, որից 247-ը՝ երեխաներ: Ողջ մնաց միայն 6 հոգի, որ պատմեն ֆրանսիական հողի ողբերդության մասին: Այսօր արյունահեղության զոհ դարձած Oradour-sur-Glane գյուղը ուրվական քաղաք է:
