Աշխարհի հնագույն գրի համակարգի վրա ազդել են առևտրում կիրառվող խորհրդանիշները՝ գլանների վրա հայտնաբերված փորագրություններ, որոնք օգտագործվում են գյուղատնտեսական ապրանքների և տեքստիլի փոխանակման համար, նշում են նոր հետազոտության հեղինակները:

Նոր հետազոտության բացահայտումները հաստատում են ավելի վաղ ուսումնասիրությունների առաջ քաշած գաղափարը՝ վաղ Միջագետքում մ.թ.ա. 3100 թվականին մշակվել սեպագիրը, որը համարվում է գրի ամենավաղ համակարգը, մասամբ առաջացել է հաշվապահական եղանակներից, որոնց օգնությամբ մարդիկ հետևել են վերոնշյալ ապրանքների արտադրությանը, պահպանմանը և փոխադրմանը:

Հետազոտողների կարծիքով՝ քարե «գլանաձև կնիքների» վրա փորագրված մի քանի խորհրդանիշ վերածվել են «նախասեպագիր» նշանների՝ հարավային Միջագետքում (ներկայում՝ հարավային Իրաք) օգտագործվող սեպագրերի վաղ տարբերակը: Գիտնականներն իրենց բացահայտումները հայտնել են Antiquity հանդեսում հրապարակված հետազոտության մեջ:

Նման գլանաձև կնիքները հազարավոր տարիներ օգտագործվել են Միջագետքում, որտեղ դրանք գլորվել են կավե աղյուսակների վրա՝ դրանց վրա դրոշմելու իրենց մոտիվները՝ հաճախ գործարքը կամ ավելի ուշ՝ նամակը հաստատելու նպատակով:

Նոր ուսումնասիրության մեջ հետազոտված կնիքներից մի քանիսը թվագրվում են մ.թ.ա. մոտ 4400 թվականին՝ գրի երևան գալուց ավելի քան 1000 տարի առաջ:

«Մենք կենտրոնացել ենք կնիքների պատկերների վրա, որոնք հայտնվել են դեռ գրի գյուտից առաջ և շարունակել են զարգանալ նախագրաճանաչության ժամանակաշրջանում»,- հայտարարության մեջ նշում են հետազոտության համահեղինակներ, Բոլոնիայի համալսարանի դասական բանասիրության և իտալագիտության բաժնի հետազոտողներ Քեթրին Քելլին և Մատտիա Կարտոլանոն։

Գիտնականների թիմը հայտնաբերել է կնիքների մոտիվներ, որոնք առնչվում են Միջագետքի տարբեր քաղաքների միջև սափորների և գործվածքների փոխադրմանը, ըստ ամենայնի տաճարային կառույցների մասնակցությամբ: Հետազոտողները ենթադրում են, որ այս մոտիվները դարձել են գյուղատնտեսական ապրանքների և գործվածքների առևտրին առնչվող նախասեպագիր նիշեր վաղ գրվածքներում։

Ըստ գիտական ​​աշխատանքի հեղինակների՝ հայտնագործությունը, որը դեռևս թերահավատություն է առաջացնում, ցույց է տալիս «նախագրաճանաչ» կնիքների և վաղ գրի միջև հաջորդականությունը։
