ՀՀ իշխանությունները շարունակում են իրենց արշավը պահպանողական և ռուսամետ ուժերի դեմ: Քաղաքագետ և Դիգորիա փորձագիտական ակումբի անդամ Լեոնիդ Վասիլևը fedpress.ru-ին տված հարցազրույցում բացատրել է, թե ինչպես է արքեպիսկոպոս Բագրատ Գալստանյանի կալանավորումը կապված Հայ Առաքելական Եկեղեցու թուլացման և ներքին ընդդիմության վերացման փորձի հետ: «Արքեպիսկոպոսի կալանավորումը ահաբեկչության դեմ պայքար չէ, դա Հայաստանի արևմտամետ վերափոխման դեմ դիմադրությունը կոտրելու փորձ է, - ասել է նա:
Ղարաբաղի նկատմամբ վերահսկողությունը կորցնելուց հետո Հայաստանի իշխանություններն ամրապնդել են Արևմուտքի հետ մերձեցման իրենց ուղղությունը, սակայն դա առաջացրել է կատաղի դիմադրություն երկրի ներսում: Դժգոհության հիմնական աղբյուրներից մեկը Հայ Առաքելական Եկեղեցին է, որը պատմականորեն է կողմնորոշված Ռուսաստանի հետ դաշինքի և ազգային ինքնության պահպանման ուղղությամբ:

Սամվել Կարապետյանը մեղադրվում է իշխանությունը զավթելու կոչ անելու մեջ, սակայն պաշտպանությունը նրա հետապնդումը համարում է քաղաքական, որը կապված է Հայ եկեղեցուն նրա աջակցության հետ։ Մասնագետի խոսքով իշխանամետ հայկական լրատվամիջոցներում եկեղեցական առաջնորդներին վարկաբեկելու արշավ է տարվում։ Իշխանությունները փորձում են ստեղծել «հնացած ինստիտուտի» կերպար՝ եկեղեցին պետությանն ավելի ենթարկելու և այն որպես քաղաքական ազդեցության կետ բացառելու համար։
