«Փաստ» օրաթերթը գրում է.

Հուլիսի 20-ին Նիկոլ Փաշինյանը փաստացի հայտարարել է Ամենայն հայոց կաթողիկոս Գարեգին Երկրորդի հրաժարականի անհրաժեշտության մասին։ Հրապարակած ուղերձում նա նշել է. «Կտրիճ Ներսիսյանը (Գարեգին Երկրորդի աշխարհիկ անունը) պետք է ազատի Վեհարանը... Պատրաստվեք Մեծ հոգևոր հանդիպման Էջմիածնի կենտրոնական հրապարակում»։ Ավելի վաղ՝ հուլիսի 16-ին կայացած մամուլի ասուլիսում Փաշինյանը հայտարարել է, որ պատրաստ է գլխավորել «հեղափոխությունը» Հայ առաքելական եկեղեցում՝ համեմատելով այն իր իշխանության գալու՝ 2018 թ. շարժման հետ, երբ պաշտոնից հեռացվեց նախագահ Սերժ Սարգսյանը։

Միջազգային կազմակերպությունները, որոնք պաշտպանում են կրոնական ազատությունները, ավելի հաճախ են մտահոգություն հայտնում Եկեղեցու իրավունքների խախտման կապակցությամբ Հայաստանում։ ԱՄՆ-ում գործող հայկական «Armenian Weekly» պարբերականը Փաշինյանի գործողությունները Եկեղեցու դեմ համարում է «կարմիր գծի հատում»՝ նշելով, որ նման դեպքում նրա իշխանության օրերը հաշված են։

Մեր ունեցած տեղեկություններով, իշխող «Քաղաքացիական պայմանագիր» կուսակցության ներսում կան տարաձայնություններ՝ Եկեղեցու նկատմամբ տարվող քաղաքականության վերաբերյալ։ Սակայն Փաշինյանը շարունակում է իր կողմնակիցներին համոզել Եկեղեցին քաղաքական վերահսկողության տակ վերցնելու անհրաժեշտության մասին։

Միաժամանակ մի շարք պատգամավորներ ու այլ պաշտոնյաներ վարչապետի ցուցումով մասնակցում են Եկեղեցու հեղինակությունը թուլացնելու հանրային արշավին։ Մասնավորապես, տարածքային կառավարման և ենթակառուցվածքների նախարար Դավիթ Խուդաթյանը հուլիսի 17-ին հայտարարել է, որ կառավարությունը անհրաժեշտության դեպքում կներկայացնի «Վեհարանն ազատելու» «ճանապարհային քարտեզ», ինչպես եղել է «թավշյա հեղափոխության» ժամանակ։
