Ինչպես պնդում են գիտնականները, համբույրն ուղղակի ռեֆլեքս չէ, դրա ապացույցներից մեկն այն է, որ երեխանեևը չեն կարողանում համբուրել, այդ պատճառով համբուրվել կարելի է սովորել: Իսկ գիտե՞ք, որ կան այնպիսի ազգեր, որոնց մոտ «համբույր»-ը չի ծառայում որպես սերն արտահայտելու միջոց:
Նոր Զելանդիայի բնիկները հանդիպելիս շփում են իրար քթերով և այդ ժամանակ տարօրինակ ձայներ են արտաբերում, որոնք ավելի շատ նման են խռխռոցի:
Սանտա-Մարիա կղզու բնակիչները միմյանց հանդիպելիս իրարից հոտ են քաշում և նույնպես շփում են քթերը:

Չիտտահոնգում, որը գտնվում է Բանգլադեշի արևելքում, կան ցեղեր, որտեղ «համբուրիր ինձ» արտահայտություն չկա, դրա փոխարեն իրենք ասում են «հոտոտիր ինձ»:
Բրիմանյացիների մոտ ողջույնը կոչվում է nomtschi (nom – հոտ, tschi – ներշնչել), ինչպես հասկացաք, իմաստը կայանում է դիմացինի հոտը «ներշնչելու» մեջ:
Չինացիները հանդիպելիս դիպչում են միմյանց քթերով կամ քթով դիպչում են դիմացինի այտին:
Ժամանակակից Ճապոնիայում համբուրվելը, այն էլ ներկաների մոտ, անվայել է, այդ պատճառով ճապոնական ֆիլմերում համբուրվող զույգ դժվար գտնեք: Սակայն դրա հետ մեկտեղ կա «ճապոնական համբույր» հասկացություն: Այս համբույրի ժամանակ զույգերը պիտի կանգնեն իրարից հեռու, դեպի առաջ թեքվելով և դիպչեն միմյանց միայն շուրթերով:
