Համաձայն մոտեցումներից մեկի` 40-րդ տարեդարձը նույնականանացվում է մահվանը հաջորդող 40 օրվա պատկերացման հետ, ըստ որի մարդու հոգին այդ օրերի ընթացքում դեռ թափառում է, հետևաբար այն վերջնական հանգստի մեջ չէ: Ստացվում է, որ այս առումով առաջանում են բացասական ընկալումներ, ինչն էլ պատճառ է հանդիսանում, որ մարդիկ չտոնեն իրենց 40 ամյակը՝ մտածելով, որ դա կարող է դժբախտություններ բերել իրենց կյանքում:
